Can't watch the video, does it have a headphone jack?

Considering it has a professional color graded 5K display, workstation CPU and GPU, ECC RAM support and 1TB of PCIe SSD storage as standard, yes, people who do heavy video editing or animation work will shell out this kind of money. It really isn't meant for normal consumers (even though you could buy one (if you had enough money, which I certainly don't)).

Ha, a fraction of these will actually go to those that will utilize them for such.

Most of them will go to the Presidents and what not of companies who always buy new tech and have it as a company expense. I worked at a place where the president did that very thing. Everytime a new iphone computer/tablet/phone/watch came out he and a couple other big wigs would all get one. They would be purchased by the company card and put to some expense.

If there were some digital professionals at my work, you can bet they would have gotten their hand me down computers at best. A companies employees are not worth this kind of cash.

I was thinking freelance workers, of course company workers never get any real nice things. Except when you work inlarge professional studios maybe.

It does.

That's nuts! Just get a Ryzen/ThreadRipper based system and bam... Similar performance with muchhh less money

A lot of people seem not to factor in the cost of the screen...

So they're regressing. That's not what I would pay $5000 for.

Or small professional studios.

My uncle owns a production company that does work for a few juggernaut custumers and while their main office only has six seats including my aunt who works as an accountant/secretary they get the real nice things in order to ensure that their employees turn over the best possible results and arent hampered by lenghthy rendering times etc. They do a lot of 4k editing, so the Imac pro being able to drive 2 5k screens in addition to it's own is something they dearly need. They've been stuck on old Mac pros for a while now since the 2013 macpro was basically a dead end.

Yeah, I'm guessing the Mac Pro line is pretty much dead. Apple gets more out of integrated systems anyway. Luckily, with eGPU support over thunderbolt, this machine could probably drive a lot more displays and tasks if necessary.

New 18 core Intel Xeon CPU (36 cpu threads)
New AMD Vega 11 Teraflop GPU (able to do 22 Teraflops half precession)
128 GB ECC memory
4 TB SSD

Sounds like a beast... but then again for 5,000$ you should kinda expect to get something kickarse.

But that's not the $4999 model.

for $4999 you only get:

8 Core Xeon CPU
32gb ECC Memory
1TB SSD

And people are actually going to buy this... lol.

It's a workstation. $5000 isn't much in the enterprise environment they're used in.
