Forums - Politics Discussion - Could a "Holocaust" happen again?

I've been watching several films that take place during the Holocaust and it was a horrible period in time. The scary thing is that it wasn't that long ago and a civilized country was able to decide that one race needed to be eradicated from the Earth.

Could it happen again? What scenario could lead to such an extreme course of events?

Of course it can happen again, if the wrong people get to much power.

it will happen again, it's just a matter of time

on a very small scale homosexuals in chechnya are facing a similar situation right now

In that era of human history, people in that region were demonizing Jews, and believing the cause of all the world troubles came from them etc.

You just have to look at what is being demonized today, and see what brainwash people are believing.

Turkey committed one, ISIS is doing it now, as are many other Muslim terrorists groups and some nations. Anyone who isn't a Muslim gets killed or treated horribly by these specific groups.

Yes but it will probably be extreme liberals gasing white people or Muslims gasing non believers.

that doesn't even make a shred of sense

"extreme liberals" would be for as little state as possible everywhere, while a concerted effort to kill one ethnicity is the most likely to happen through an extremely authoritarian regime

*gassing

And no.

Isn't ISIS technically committing one right now? Against Yazidis, Assyrians, etc.

One for good reason the other wasn't.

The knowledge of what happened during the Holocaust will keep people from letting it happen again but if those in denial succeed in spreading their alternative facts to enough people then it's very much possible that something similar could happen again. In Sweden we've had extreme right groups trying to sabotage speeches by Holocaust survivors or spreading flyers with the purpose of calling out their "lies".
Prior to another Holocaust there would be clear signs that something like that would be about to happen but if no one believes them then who's going to put a stop to it?

And I think we all know there are forces in the western world who are more or less open about promoting genocide and happily would get rid of jews and other unwanted people if they gained the political power to do so.
