Today my isp got me again. We were on a 270gb monthly cap which seems quite a bit but with 2 kids streaming daily, multiple home consoles sucking down ever larger patches and Netflix adding to the pile at 3GB per hour it was only a matter of time before going over again. What my isp failed to mention was that their already expensive overage charge of $1.50 per GB is now $5.00 per GB. Meaning an average day usage over the limit is $50 per day... That while reporting the usage is at least 1 day behind, longer on weekends cause computers need a break too...

So I wanted to change our package, yet it seems easier to do your taxes. The stuff we have doesn't exist anymore, grandfather package whatever, so the cable tv was going to change as well, less channels on SD boxes, need new equipment, lose time shifting, gain remote pvr access at one new to install terminal. Ofcourse a technician has to come by to install the new boxes cause it's hard to plug things in...

It took about an hour and a half on the phone to find a suitable replacement package with 500GB data limit. Yay, still a data limit. Yet somehow $20 less a month than what we were paying, except, this is where they get you, in a year the bill will silently go up by $40 a month. Oh well, still have a year from then to negotiate a better deal before being off worse. That's what it feels like with my isp, yearly negotiations. Does it have to be this way.

At least they'll waive the overage charges (have to call again for that cause computers) and with nearly double the limit we should be good for a while again. I better check the next bill carefully. It usually takes a few back and forths until they get things as promised.

Anyone else have to negotiate yearly with their isp?
Btw we were paying about CAD 2500 ($1860) yearly for cable+internet+landline (useless thing but still have to keep it)

Hmm, I'm not even sure how much my family uses. We have unlimited internet, though.

I have no idea. I used to have a 24-hour 20 GB cap which I rarely hit, and now there's no cap. Before the 20 GB cap, it was 5 GB per 24 hours, which I did struggle a bit with, but it's been long since that and I have no idea how much my consumption has changed since. On average, maybe a bit more, perhaps 7 GB? That'd be about 210 GB per month, depending on how much I download games and how much I watch videos online. It could probably vary by at least dozends of gigabytes per month between months, although it's probably generally closer to the lower end.

I'm just glad to live in a country where I think no major ISP is capping internet usage. I think they tried caps for 3G/4G connections, but I haven't seen the caps there recently, so I think they scrapped that and we're safe for now. The only reason I had a cap in the first place was because my internet connection is included in my rent and used to come through a, umm, 'special' ISP. It changed to a regular commercial ISP and now there's no cap.

Unlimited data, but I think I use several gigabyte (up to 10+) each day.

Christ... 250gb cap?

That's about 4-5 PS4 games of the AAA variety that would be insane to agree to.
The Witcher 3 and all dlc for it are close to 80GB alone, could download that and then set your youtubes to 240p for the rest of the month :D would drive me insane having that cap.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I have no cap, thank god, I had a 40GB cap on a USB modem for a while in 2015, never been so frustrated in my life...

5mbps, 300GB cap, for $39 a month. $49 would get us unlimited.
Between 4 of us, we typically use around 100GB-200GB. We never go over 300GB and we don't constantly track our usage. That's with downloading music, movies, console updates, the odd console game, and normal web surfing usage. We can't stream Netflix or anything like that. If we could, we would probably come much closer to hitting the 300GB cap. We also try to download what we can between 1am-8am which is free and not counted towards usage.

Been averaging 800GB a month at Home and 35GB a month Mobile. Some months have went all the way up to 1.4TB and 60GB. I have a 1TB cap on Home and 50GB mobile. If we start to push either beyond the cap consistently it is $50ea to get unlimited data

Right now I pay $56 a month for Comcast 150Mbps 1TB cap, $65 PS Vue Ultra Package, and $180 for 50GB with Four Phones and One device (3G Vita) on AT&T with my company discount.

Agree to lol. The only alternative here is switching to phone lines and be limited to 5mbps, joy with 4 people.

They still offer a smaller package 25GB a month! I guess for people that only use email. Unlimited internet starts at CAD 100 a month. That would be the next step when 4K streaming becomes normal. Hopefully next year I can negotiate with them to get us to unlimited for a reasonable price. The first thing I check when browsing games on psn is what the download size is.

It's kinda sad how addicted to internet we've become. Turning the modem off when getting close to the limit is amazingly hard to do lol. My kids asking every 5 minutes to do something that involves internet. Check the weather, the news, game sites, google anything I need to look up, and I just bought Bridge crew, ps4 system update, game patch, online only. How did I manage to grow up without the internet!

I have a 300gb soft cap. Whereby anything over 300gb per month incurs a penalty of having my speed throttled to some unknown degree. I've never hit my 300gb soft cap limit though. If I have a big fucking pig of a download, which is basically limited to PS4 games, I start it at 1AM and throw in whatever else I can too, since 1AM - 5AM is unlimited. It's not great, but I make it work.
