Japanese commercial:

We need MORE MORE MORE of these type of games.
this is what made the Wii into the Wii: easy to pick, hard to let go, cool crazy motion gamepaly that attract casuals.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Having actually played the game for almost 2 hours, this game is anything but casual, it's quite difficult. There's no way a Wii Fit soccer mom is going to be able to play this game well.

Just because it has motion controllers does not mean it's Wii Boxing. It's nothing like Wii Boxing. You will get your ass hand to you in this game if you try just waggling around like crazy. It's a pretty difficult game, you really need to know what you're doing. Smash Brothers is probably easier to play, the controls are actually quite difficult.

This isn't a game that's going to bring in casuals. That was 1,2 Switch, but its success has been limited.

Switch doesn't need casuals, it can do fine without them and is doing just that. For *this* particular game showing motion controls makes sense, because it is a game about (well) ARMS, but it doesn't mean though that this is anything like Wii Sports. It far, far more complex and quite frankly, it's not easy to play. You have  to really know what are you doing.

The game it's most like now that I've acually played is actually Virtual On, the old Sega arcade game. It's a projectile/long distance fighter.

The game can be casual or hardcore as that's entirely up to the player. Smash can be nothing but 1v1 no items if you choose, while Splatoon can be Turf Wars only. Doesn't mean Smash can't still be a party game and Splatoon still a competitive one. That's generally the beauty of videogames, you can play them how you want to, and I don't see ARMS being any different in that regard. It's no harder to play than Smash, hell it's even easier having only one way to attack, yet still has enough depth for the hardcore players to git gud. Not saying it's gonna attract soccer moms or grandpas though.

The easiest way to get your ass beat in this game is to just start swinging your arms around like crazy. The movement, switch targets, consistently nailing targets, curving punches, learning that you have to keep moving, jumping, blocking, special attacks, three different weapon options for each ARM ... I mean there's *a lot* here.

I'd say it's a bit harder than games like Smash or even Soul Calibur/Tekken were you can button mash and actually win now and again.

ARMS, you really have to know what you're doing pretty much all the time, even the "simple" volleyball game is pretty hard, lol, it's not some easy bonus stage that you might expect.

That's not a knock on the game, it's a good game, but people who see these commercials may be getting the impression that it's Wii Boxing ... it's nothing like Wii Boxing at all.

Nice ads! I like the focus on motion controls and multiplayer in those videos. Played the Testpunch with a bunch of friends (including two girls) and the game reminds me a bit of Mario Kart: Very easy to pick up and understand but hard to master. Everyone can play it but there's a big learning curve to go through. You can play ARMS casually while chatting or being drunk or play it like a sport and get really competitive. That's the stuff great games are made of and I like it.

That's the same for every game ever, button mashing gets you nowhere against good players. ARMS is actually easier to start playing than other fighters including Smash as it doesn't have combos and various different movesets that require different inputs, it's literally just punch.

If the game fails, it'll be because Nintendo keeps pushing the motion controls. If it succeeds, it will be in spite of them.

Nice commercial. Arms does have a great, catchy theme.
