Forums - Gaming Discussion - Shenmue III to skip E3 2017, ‘Development Report Vol. 3’ video

A look at the model for a new character.

Ys Net has released the third entry in its series of “Development Report” videos for Shenmue III, this time providing a look at the model for a new character.

Additionally, the development team confirmed that Shenmue III won’t be at any game events in June, including E3. Here is the full message:

We have also been receiving questions from our backers regarding our plans to participate in upcoming game shows. While our schedule has yet to be finalized, we will be devoting June to game development and as a result, will unfortunately not be participating in any game shows. On the other hand, we look forward to bringing you our monthly updates and hope you do too!

I guess they're taking pages out of Square Enix's playbook. That animation needs work too... but I'm looking forward to it in 2020!

That character looks a bit...weird.

Hopefully it's out before PS5 comes out. I'm worried after FFVIIR.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

$6.3 million have been raised for this game. I wonder if that'll be enough.

Well Kickstarter said Dec 2017 release. I'm thinking they will show a quick update video with early 2018 release date. Most likely announce Shenmue HD collection for this holiday with a 3 month gap between Shenmue 3 releasing.

That's not the games budget. The Kickstarter was to gauge interest and probably covered pre production costs. I think Sega and Sony are footing the overall bill. Sony will probably cover porting, publishing and marketing costs and Sega the development and publishing costs on PC.

SONY E3 2015

We're announcing TLG still in the development = Everyone happy and hyped = meh critic scores = non existence sales data from sony = no one even care at this point

FF VII remake in the works = Everyone happy and hyped = after 2 years, the development phase started = FF 13 versus flashback = lowered expectation

Shenmue 3 finally on HD console = everyone happy and hyped = turn out to be a kick starter project = no new trailer at E3 2017 = ???

TLG:

1) Metacritic is at 82%. That's not meh.

2) it wasn't about the sales it was about fan service and most who bought it enjoyed it just like Ico and SotC also not having great sales.

FF 7R: it's SE, they never do anything on time.

Shenmue 3:

1) this is again about fan service. People who have been waiting 15 years for this game. A game that was one the reason why Sega had to go 3rd party. Those fans who backed it are still excited for it.

2) yes, no trailer, but again those who backed it have been watching it develop and following the dev diaries.

3) waiting 15 years for this, people won't give a shit whether it was launched on Kickstarter or Yu Suzukis toilet whilst he takes a dump.

The only  people not excited for this game are those who didn't experience it, know why Yu Suzuki is a legend and what this game has done for gaming.

both ICO and SOTC scored above 89 on metacritic and for TLG long awaited game that was hyped by sony fans it was considered Meh to me for that metascore.

Good E3 revealed and reception was Twilight princess that living up to the hyped and also BOTW with the highest rated game on WiiU/PS4/X1 generation

E3 2015 = premature cgi gameplay hype = failure
