Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Finacial Times: Nintendo to produce 18M Switch units in FY18

That's a good bump, that's for sure!

Of course, that number can't be read as "sold this fiscal year". Still, even if they don't have anything really big planned for the last quarter, they might have for 2018FY, which might help explain that number.

If they do manage to have a main Pokémon game than the holidays are going to be amazing and sell a lot of consoles!

This still makes sense for my 14 million prediction. Production and shipments are two different things after all. Still, it should be a good year for Nintendo.

Well I'm slightly amazed on how well it is selling so far. I thought the price barrier might be a little too much for sustained sellouts of stock. I still think they need to at least get a MK8 bundle or Super Mario bundle at 299 for the holidays or drop the base price to 249 without a game.

Switch vs Ps4 is the best battles of the last decade! i´m fuc***** loving it!

Since i love both Consoles i don´t care who wins as long as i´m having fan :D

The system seems to be getting most of the big sellers a lot earlier then past Nintendo consoles so I expect it's sales to be more front loaded. It makes sense to produce this much.

It wont be more front loaded. It looks that way to yourself because of how the first year line up is. Which any1 at first glance would think. But there is much much more to it than that.

Splat2

Zelda (3d)

Mario (2d)

Are the big system sellers here for the first year. MHXXMK8D are still ports despite being huge sellers. Its not MH5/MK9 and ARMS is a new ip. The other games are mid to smaller tier

Still got pokemon (rumored STARS is still a port, not a new game) that can come out next year as well as SSB5/2D Mario/Animal Crossing/etc for the years 2018/2019. Including more (like a pokemon generation 8)

If anything this shows the much longer life of tge hardware. And with a possible Handheld only switch in 2 years, this wont be front loaded imo

Thats great for yourself. Though switch came out late, i think this will be the first time 2 main competitors will dominate a gen. PS4/Switch next 2 years can possibly ship/sell up to 75mil+ combined

Most likely, Ps4 18m + Switch 18m = 36m, replicate that the next year after and u have 72m. i think Switch will do bigger numbers the year after though, not sure about Ps4.

As expected.

Smart move. Much better to have ample supply during the holidays than be left short and have consumers either picking up a PS4/X1 instead or resorting to paying scalpers for a Swich.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Told you the launch games were fine.

But, but it's basically just Zelda .

OT: I hope Nintendo can ride this new wave of success. Go, go Mario.

My point still stands lol people buy hardware at launch for hardware, not software. Software only matters for legs. It only needed Zelda to get its foot in the door.
