Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What can Microsoft do to compete with the PS4 and Switch this holiday?

While I was mostly a 360 gamer during 2008 to 2012. These days though I do find myself being more of a Nintendo and Sony gamer then an Xbox gamer. But that hasn't stop me from being very interested in seeing what Microsoft has their up sleveas which we will find out in a couple weeks at E3.

While Nintendo does some  niche titles later this year like Fire Emblem Warriors and Xenoblade 2 they do have Super Mario Odyssey. Now the trailer for Super Mario Odyssey has over 21 million views on youtube and just going by that trailer and that this is the same team who made the galaxy games its a safe bet this is another BOTW in terms of quality and will easily move Switch's out of the shelves this holiday. Plus there are the rumor port of Smash 4 and the third verion of Pokemon Sun and Moon. If those 2 rumors are true then I think its a strong possiblity that the Switch can even beat the PS4 this holiday.

While I am willing to bet that God Of War and Spider-Man (the 2 biggest console selling exclusives Sony currently has in the works) is next year they do though have the marketing deals for what I would say this holiday's biggest games. Destiny 2, Call Of Duty World War 2, and Star Wars Battlefront 2. While on forums Destiny does get a lot of hate its still a very popular game even among causal gamers and CoD WW2 isn't getting the backlash Infinite Warfare got, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 is being released 1 month before The Last Jedi. So reguardless on how we all think of these games its hard to deny that they won't be among this years top sellars espically Battlefront. Now while they are all on Xbox One, Sony does have the marketing deal and this is why that is important. Imagine yourself as a casual gamer who maybe only buys like 2 to 3 games a year and you see ads for those 3 games and you see the playstation logo at the end of them your mind will probably instantly associate them with Playstation and if you do get console for any of them you will probably lean towards Playstation and that is if you heard of the Xbox One version. That is why marketing deals are important its basically to get the cauals to associate third games with a certain console. While Microsoft does the marketing for Shadow Of War and while LOTR is of course very popular it doesn't have any LOTR names except Middle Earth on it and even then Star Wars is without a doubt a bigger brand then Lord Of Rings. Finally these marketing deals could also hurt the Scorpio by preventing third parties from showing the Scorpio verion of those games.

Finally Microsoft has dropped the ball with exclusives this gen. Now you can be a fan of games like Ryse Son Of Rome, and Qunatum Break that is fine but lets face it none of MS games this generation have huge system sellars or critically acclaim except for maybe the Forza Horizon series. While I am sure games like Crackdown 3, Sea Of Thieves, Forza 7, and State Of Decay will be fun. They aren't a system sellar like Breath Of The Wild nor a critical darling like Persona 5 and even if 343 is lying about no Halo this year I doubt Halo 6 will be that big of a system sellar since I imagine a good amount Halo fans already bought an Xbox One for MCC, Halo 5, and Halo Wars 2 and even that is a franchise on the decline from both a crtical and finnacal stand point.

They failed to get third party marketing deals for the biggest multiplatform release this year and lack the system sellers that their competition has. But yet while this depressing for the Xbox brand espically with Scorpio releasing this holiday I am still very interested in their E3 conference this year in fact it might be the one I am most curious about just to on the curiousity on what they have in store for the Scorpio besides its specs.

Microsoft failed to deliver a IP like Halo or Gears this gen. I doubt it's going to happen now. Bundles with Scorpio and Battlefront 2 and making deals with EA it's the only version that gets updated and thst they will skip the pro will do something for hardcore gamers. As for the more casual gamer pricecuts abs a bundle of Xone S, Gears 4, Halo 5 and a Forza game for $200 sounds pretty good.

A 200 dollar Xbox One S bundle with a game could give them a decent edge and I can see it happening but that it would eat into the Scorpio's sells. So not the best solution for Microsoft ideally.

There is nothing. They don't even release exclusive games anymore. So, PC user's like me, don't bother with the Xbox brand.

I think the Xone S and Scorpio are meant for a different audience to begin with. The PS4 is going to hit the $200 mark so it has to compete with that. On its own the Xone will lose from PS4 but if the Xone gets a bundle of $200 and 2/3 older games while the PS4 only gets a $225 bundle with one game, probably Horizon it stands a chance to win US. Sony did a bundle with GTA 5 and The last of us remastered and that did great during the holidays.

I think the marketing deal point is kind of moot. They were never getting those games. They probably have AC though and until confirmed they still have FIFA.
Ms just needs to push Scorpio as much as possible tbqh

Well that might not be the case anymore.

Though what is the thing you they can agreesively push the Scorpio with to help the system?

Yeah a Horizon with a PS4 slim bundle is pretty likely and I do think they will bring back the Star Wars bundle back for Battlefront 2. Since they would pretty be crazy not to espically with the release of The Last Jedi just a month later.

Scorpio launch in November. A Crackdown 3 bundle for the Xbox One S & includes 3 months of free XBL Gold. $300.

The first thing Microsoft needs is an open world rpg in the vain of skyrim, breath of the wild, or Horizon Zero Dawn. While they should not abandon their holy trinity (Halo, Gears, Forza) they need a new ip asap. No Jrpgs, RTS, or MMO will fill the void of a single-player open world rpg.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

They cancelled that gam that could compete with Horizon or BotW.
