*Due to my recent reviews causing quite a bit of grief on my part, I will once again use this as an opportunity to remind readers that my reviews take story into a stronger account than most, if not all, reviewers for video games. I started posting my reviews BECAUSE I am tired of playing games with good reviews and have ZERO or a TERRIBLE story. My reviews are dedicated to other gamers, no matter how few of us there are, that care about EVERY game having a story. That being said, starting with this review going forward, I will post my review score, as well as a score that doesn’t take the story of the game into account IF the game either doesn’t have one, isn’t able to have one (like Mario Maker), or has such a small one that it is a joke (Tropical Freeze). This score is meant to satisfy those of you who are so salty about a reviewer being different than 99% of the others that you find nothing better to do than come on here and insult me for being different. Have a pleasant day.

Warhammer: Total War Review

Originality: What a fantastic take on a series that has had a very similar feel for too long! I was expecting a Warhammer skinned total war game and I was right to expect that in some ways and wrong in so many others. Never, in my decade plus long experience with this series, has one of their games focused on doing things so uniquely (you can’t occupy every type of settlement, making natural enemies and allies, and unnatural ones that are a pain to fight so it better be worth it, insane focus on missions/quests and stories compared to other total war games and good stories at that, drastically different units in abilities and design, etc.). This was the freshest take I’ve seen in the series so far! They changed a lot of things for the better and nothing, in my opinion, for the worse!

20/20

Graphics: As always with total war games, considering how many units are on the field, it is amazing they have the visuals they do.

10/10

Art Style: Loved this so much! It just felt like such fantasy. From bright green sunny forests, to dark red chaos wastes, and everything in between. It felt like I was in a Zelda game to be honest! Other total war games art direction feels bland by comparison!

15/15

Story: The best story ever made in total war history, in my opinion. I loved how every race had such different goals, perspectives on the worlds, accents, etc. Total war in the past meant make your story as you go, which usually means no story. This game made a clear linear path and it was SO much fun doing those mission/quests! I only wish There had been some cinematic moments during those quests and missions, especially at the end, and not just the one in the beginning.

28/30

Game Interface: Annoying or not? Everything good in this!

5/5

Controls easy and fluid or difficult and rigid? Great here! Unlike Civilization 6 *cough* which stupidly switched to arrow controls, this game keeps the wasd format that we are all so used to. Also moving on the map as well as using qe to move horizontally in battle maps is beautiful as always (again something civilization 6 is lacking for no reason).

5/5

Is it fun? Absolutely a blast! Never have I enjoyed pillaging and sacking so much! In the old days you just slowing killed all the other nations. In this game, the natural thing to do was build alliances up of similar races and you had to be strategic with wars against races you couldn’t occupy. The most fun I think I’ve ever had in total war!

NR means Not Recommended based on inappropriateness.

^Charm is rewarded to games that have an undefinable quality to them that makes them amazing and have high replayability value.

Total war games are amazing its my favourite series I loved the Warhammer one to its a match made in heaven but Shogun 2 is still my fav. :)

This is a very interesting game for me. I like a lot of it, but it failed to grab me, largely due to how much it deviates from the TW formula. Personally, Medieval 2 is still, imo, the pinacle of the series. AI worth a dang, polished, some neat new additions to the series, and the area where it trumps Shogun 2 (which I hold very nearly the equal of medieval 2): variety. And the DLC expansions of Medieval 2 kick so much ass.

On an unofficial level, I hold Third Age: Total War as third, rught below Shogun 2 which is right below Medieval 2. Rome is great too, but really slow paced and some antiquated design.
