Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Now that Switch is selling, it needs to evolve...

I care about none of these things. Just keep delivering the games.

Yup. It's refreshing to have a console that is basically just a console again. No fluff, just games.

I would like all of those things, except the achievement system. Heck, I'd rather they not be on there, as I don't like them.

Achievements and a browser program are completely pointless. Of all the pointless gimmicks that Nintendo can add to the Switch, achievements are at the bottom.

Doesn't need achievements. Glad Nintendo doesn't do it.

This is a very basic feature that's been standard for the rest of the industry for years, now. Many Switch users would enjoy it. Those who do not could simply disable it. Adding the option would only be a benefit, and one long overdue.

seeing the title I came in here to tell the OP he is wrong....

OP is right, I hate that I have to put down the switch and pick up my tablet or phone to open up youtube or netflix, for such a tiny 3rd party app it really is a failing by Nintendo that they've introduced a scenario where they're console is powered off rather than used for all to retire other devices.

Thank you. The Switch's bare bones functionality is a real missed opportunity. I shouldn't even need to own a tablet if I have a Switch.

Yea, I really don't get it either. Why on earth would anyone complain about more features? Thats like complaining that your car has heated because hate heated seats. lol

I think all that extra stuff will come when the online service launches (web browser, Youtube, Netflix, etc.).

There's a media playback option in the sleep settings so it looks like something's coming.

I'd like it to stay as a game only device for a couple of years. A new dock with a DVD drive would come in handy though.

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

I would love the ability to record upto a few minutes of game play rather than having to connect my switch to a capture device every time I feel like recording a gameplay then disconnecting and reconnecting to the tv.....
the xbone has this ability and it also has the xboxdvr feature that allows you to manage these clips via pc/laptop and be able to download them/upload to youtube or make gifs out of them. Something I sorely miss on the switch.

an example of an xbone gifs I made

I think there is opportunity for some improvements certainly.

- Add Home menu music that can be turned on and off

- Add E-Shop Music that can be turned on and off

- More options to filter through E-Shop

- Ability to Save Back-ups Game saves on Micro SD card and Cloud Saves

- Ability to message friends and send invites

- Ability to create Folders

- Ability to Hide an icon without uninstalling it

Streaming apps (other media app, etc.) can be optional downloads that just show up in the E-Shop for those who want them.

The simply speedy design of the OS should be enhanced or maintained with all future updates.

I don't think that Castlevania Netflix series announcement happening so close to E3 is a coincidence. That the trailer had an NES reference. I expect to see Netflix on the Switch during E3. Also I think there is a good possibility some Castlevania game, port or new title, will be announced to coincide with it.

I understand that people like it. I just don't. It kind of turned me off from playing certain games because of achievements, especially ones that ask too much of me. I also get that I can just ignore them if I don't like them. Though why is it that other people can't be like that on the opposite side? Is anything lost by not having achievements in a game? The only time I see it worthwhile is if I'm rewarded with something, like extra goods unlocked.

An optional feature you choose to turn off > a missing feature you had no choice in enabling or not. People like challenges and bragging rights. You don't need achievements to have challenges, but they create a more tangible and trackable record of your gaming accomplishments as well as additional goals to strive for in your playtime.
