Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

ill do avatar control for a month, and i would like to use official sell through numbers for calendar year 2018 from both nintendo and sony

Switch will likely do more than the 10m they planned because their upping production.

But PS4 is going to have its peak year this year... that means more than 17.5m units (I personally think it might end up around 18.5 or so).

Even if Switch ends up doing like 14m this year, it ll still be behinde the PS4 (~18m).


How big a drop off PS4 faces in 2018... who knows, but it seems likely that the Switch could outsell it then (Small win).

By March 2018, PS4 will be at 78m units (if forecasts of 18m this year hold).

In 2019, the PS4 will cross 100m units sold at some point (likely before the holidays).

Gonna be fun seeing when exactly.

that might not work, they dont always give out yearly sell through numbers, how will the bet work if one or both of them don't?

we get those numbers every year lol

but if for some reason we dont this year then obviously we use the most reliable numbers we have at the time

Not really big.

If the switch can't win against ps4 the first year with all the big games (splatoon/Mario kart/Zelda/mario...), it will never beat ps4 in 2018 or 2019.

They will only have animal crossing as a big seller left, and pokémon if it's a original game, and not a 3ds port.

Undoubtedly there is way more coming, but those won't sell more than 5 million units on PS4 during the holidays. Besides Star Wars is freaking huge and those games are combined still way bigger than Mario Oddesey if we are only going for what is announced. The Japanese studios will have some big games as well this holiday. There could be a new Elder Scrolls during E3 and released in November like Fallout 4. After two weeks we will know what is exactly in store for the holidays though.
