Forums - Sales Discussion - Switch vs Ps4 - Who will win 2017 WW

If only the Atari Box released this years. People wouldn't even remember the PS4 or Switch at this point.

They gave it a time-out..... the plan was to get it on indigogo orwhatever and then release it in 2018 spring time.

Right now? there are no plans for it, so it doesnt have any release date.

Ok, if people seriusly predicted Switch to beat PS4 in 2017 they either massively underestimated PS4 or overestimated Switch.

In any case, there was no way for Switch to beat PS4 this year, not with stocks problems. 2018 is the year when Switch become the best selling console.

Even without stock problems, it wouldnt have sold more than the PS4 in its launch year.

2018 is gonna be close.....  I see PS4 doing like 20m+ this year, and maybe 1-2m less in 2018.

If Switch really can sell 20m next  year (like that guy said he wanted it to do), it might be able to outsell the PS4.

I still think its gonna be a close one, too early to tell if switch wins 2018.

1) PS4 could get a perma 199$ price.

2) also the games:

Monster Hunter World
Red Dead Redemption
Far Cry 5
Days Gone
Marvel's Spiderman
Detroid : Become Human
God of War
Last of us Part2
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Anthem
Ni no Kuni II
Kingdom Hearts 3
A way out
Metro Exodus
Kingdom Come Deliverance
Vampyr
Skull & bones
Shenmue 3
The Inpatient
Code Vein
Ace Combat 7 - skies unknown
Metal Gear Survive
Darksiders 3
System Shock
Jurassic World Evolution
Physchonauts 2
Biomutant
Dynasty Warrior 9
Fe
MBL the show 18
Greedfall
Dreams
Moss
Shadow of the colossus
Surviving Mars
Yakuza 6
World War Z
Beyound Good and Evil 2

Alot of these wont be on the switch, and those that are will be gimpy versions.

Im going to say Switch will win, i just dont see ps4 doing as much as switch, maybe about half as good if they are lucky

Will win 2017 (as in the thread says)?

Because right now (in 2017) (upto november) its 10m Switch's to 17.2m PS4's.

Switch is gonna need a crazy good december to win 2017 sales wise.

Have we numbers?

Switch did 10m in 9months.

PS4 did 17.2m so far this year (upto november)

Both will probably do ~2m or so in december atleast.

It *could* very well end up looking something like:

12-12,5m switch total vs 19,5-20m PS4 total this year.

So basically all those people that said the Switch would win 2017 ww sales, where wrong.

Sucks to be those people especially those who predicted with great hubris.

They should know the usual pattern to sales: the initial years are usually lower than middle years so a 4 year-old PS4 would be stronger than a 9 month-old Switch.

The Switch is a very nice system, but it is also very new. It will take some time for its library to become good enough to really compete against the PS4. In 2018, I predict that the PS4 will be number one again. This is mainly due to Europe. If Pokemon comes out then the Switch has a chance, otherwise we should assume that Europe will carry Sony.

Well I guess now's a good as time for crow as any with the Switch finishing with roughly 12.5-13.5m and the PS4 with 20-21m, so here it all is in one convenient post.

Tryklon - "PS4 has absolutely no chance whatsoever of winning 2017 in sales."

Abronn627 - "Switch. PS4 will be in it's 4th holiday this year and software release won't matter much at this point."

Slade6Alpha - "If Switch was fully stocked, no contest Switch. PS4 gets the handout victory. " (selling over 20m is a handout!)

Slarvax - "I think it's gonna be closer than most are saying, but PS4 should win. I give them a 5 million difference at most. " (Switch will finish with around 12.5-13.5m, PS4 will finish with around 20-21m. A difference of 6.5-8.5m)

VideoGameAccountant - "Nintendo potentially selling 15-17 million this year (based on sales of the Wii and DS) and Sony not making their 18 million goal, I'd go with Switch. " (Wrong on both counts VideoGameAccountant)

Rolstoppable - "the sell-through numbers will likely fall into the ranges of 15-18m for the PS4 and 10-14m for Switch." (Not much to say, the predicted ranges are incredibly wide, PS4 sales still outperformed his expectations.)

AnmolRed - "Switch , especially if they announce Pokemon. " (I guess they did announce pokemon)

HyrulianScrolls - "Gonna say Switch does because I see the demand for it being massive this holiday"

Jumpin - "Switch, it's hot, the PS4 has peaked and is winding down. " (The peak year before was 17.6m, this year it's going to be 20-21m definitely not winding down.)

Slab_of_bacon - "It's a launch year for the Switch with some great titles. It will be close but it's hard for me to imagine the Playstation 4 keeping up with that"

Kristof81 - "I'm guessing Switch, but it's going to be close..."

VideoGameAccountant - "why should we think that Sony won't decline. The PS4 is in its fourth year, so we should expect some decline. Nintendo is real competition. With this in mind, why should we expect that Sony can keep its earlier sales volume up?" (Second post by him, he doesn't really live up to his name. PS4 sales will have increased roughly 16.5%, not close to decline.)

irstupid - "There is the new hot item, the Switch. Then there is the new Scorpio, Both should steal a console or two from the PS4 this holiday season. So expecting same sales from PS4 this year as last year is being dillusional." (Sales went up around 16.5% if Flat was delusional I don't know what you'd have said about that.)

AnthonyW86 - "I think Switch"

That's tasty! Great recipe.
