Forums - Nintendo Discussion - [Gamestop] Switch Is Exceeding Wii Sales In the Same Timeframe; Sold More Than 5M Software So Far & More

GameStop has recently shared its sales performance results from the first quarter of 2017, which were described as “particularly strong” thanks in part to the success of the Nintendo Switch, among other things.  Furthermore, Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmed posted additional facts related to GameStops report on his Twitter.

While the report obviously focuses on GameStop mostly, there are some interesting mentions of the Nintendo Switch. Around 5.4 million software have been sold between it’s launch in March and now, and the console has a very high attach rate of 6 to 1 for accessories. The strong demand for the Switch is especially noteworthy for occurring outside the holiday period.

GameStop CFO Rob Lloyd said that it was likely even more Switch units could be sold if the company hadn’t had trouble securing enough consoles. “There is a contest among all the retailers, online and in store, with our good friends at Nintendo.” GameStop Company Chief Tony Bartel added that GameStop wasn’t even close to meeting the demand they received for the Switch.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

5.4 millions?Thats much higher than I thought.Actually, that higher then I thought it were possible.Did Nintendo really ship that much?

I mean, Switch sold 280k in the US in April and around 200 in Japan(in April).Assuming Europe had done a simmilar number, how the hell they sold an extra 2 millions in May?Or is it the Mario Kart 8 shipment that came a little late to enter April numbers?

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I highly doubt that 5.4 million figure. That means it sold the same between April and now (assuming they include May numbers) that it did in March.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

That 5.4 million figure is for software, not hardware.

so 2.4M in March and 3M in April+most of May ? Unless there was A LOT of people that couldn't get it in March I find it unlikely...

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (and other releases like Minecraft and Disgaea) probably impacted more May than April. I bet Switch sold more in May than it did in April in US, but it's weird indeed. I don't know what to think.

EDIT: 4m is what I'm actually expecting for March/April/May (US~1.5/EU~1.2m/JAP~1m/RoW~0.3m)

That would make much more sense.

Regardless, I have no idea where NintendoEverything got that figure from. Neither of the sources they used mentioned those numbers.

Yeah, pretty sure that's Software. If it was Hardware this thing would be destroying the Wii.

I'll fix the thread info since it's apparently software, not hardware. it anyone knows more info down the line, please give me some heads up.

Anyway, it's still great news since it's tracking ahead of Wii. My personal bet is that it's at 4m WW by this month's end.

This site says it's indeed 5.4 million software.
