Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch 1st Year in Japan could be one of the Strongest Lineups Ever of All Time

I find it damn near impossible to believe Xenoblade 2 will be out this year despite their reiterating that it is indeed a late year release.

That said, this year is looking absolutely fantastic. At this point the one thing that's still a gaping hole in my mind is we desperately need another Super Mario Maker, but I imagine they're waiting to get their online services up and running for that.

Otherwise, I'm actually really excited for Skyrim and NBA 2k on the go.

The issue I have with this list is that you're only expecting one major game to come out every month. It may make sense now because that's the current pattern, but surely the amount of new games is going to increase during the holiday season? I see no reason why Nintendo alone shouldn't have 2+ major titles planned for a November and December release each, unless they know Switch supply issues will be so severe that they will hurt software sales. MHXX and Mario Odyssey for example can coexist in December.

I expect they'll be banking on Odyssey and Xenoblade sales for the holidays and will continue to space out releases with the aim of maintaining momentum in year two (assuming they still have it at that point).

This opening year is more than enough as far as console launch years go (people always seem to forget how weak launch years usually are across the consoles), no need to pile more titles into it that will be overlooked and wind up with a big software gap in 2018.

They won't even have to do anything to make it fly off of shelves in Japan, gonna be big there for sure!

I expect Animal crossing to be announced at E3, to be fitted into a launch window in October some time, so as not to cannibalise the sales of other major titles too much. Then, for Nintendo to struggle to keep Switches on store shelves in Japan well into 2018.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Ehhh, some of those don't merit that much of a push (Minecraft, Mario + rabbids, fire emblem warriors) and ARMS which can be a real hit or under perform and other ones which are just speculation. It's certainly a better line up than most consoles have in their first year

I was actually thinking the Switch's 1st year in general could be one of the best ones in gaming, if things go according to plan. Considering there could be Zelda, Mario, AND Xenoblade 2 in one year, as well as other games like ARMS and Spla2n, sprinkle in some other games I'm forgetting, and I'm feeling it could be really great! ...If it goes according to Nintendo's plan!

N64 actually had a pretty loaded first year, just had no support/filler titles.

Super Mario 64
GoldenEye
Mario Kart 64
Star Fox 64 w/Rumble Pak
Pilotwings 64
Wave Race 64
Blast Corps
Killer Instinct Gold
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Tetrisphere
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
International Superstar Soccer 64

LOL

heh, you were actually right. It wasn't "over a year later". It was exactly 1 day less than a year

Aye first Saturday in December on both years, 52 weeks later since the game wouldn't launch on a Sunday in Japan, still it's the little things people keep onto for 11 years that make life worth living!

I think N64 was one of the biggest systems ever for being held up by first party for so long before it just fell to pieces, people say the GC cost them Third party games but porting CD based games to N64 carts was a job most didn't bother with when the psone was just so much easier to put games out on and it was selling like hotcakes.

N64 does have some amazing first and second party games though.

Because they are spreading titles, they don't need to overcrowd Nov/Dec... that would be cannibalism.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
