I think it looks amazing, looking forward to trying it out when I get my hands on my switch later this year! Hopefully the testpunch will increase the interest for the game, and maybe show the doubters that the motion controls aren't all that bad (or that the game is still great with regular controls). If it takes of that might also make nintendo more willing to make switch sports resort, which would make me very happy.

If anything it makes me happy to see that nintendo are willing to let their bigger teams experiment.

OMG! I'm so happy to see I'm not alone on this. I'd love a more polished Switch Sports Resort game. The original was so fun!

One of the best party games, also quite fun playing by oneself. I'm wondering why they haven't made a new one, sure it won't sell 25 millions but I don't see why it wouldn't do a couple of millions that would more than cover the development costs. The first sports wasn't all that good, but wii motion plus made it all that much better!

Are you sure you're holding the Joy-Cons properly and that your left one isn't having the infamous de-syncing issue? Punch curving should always register, certainly not never, so that is definitely not a normal motion control deficiency especially for the Switch which has superior motion tech than the Wii. As for movement, iirc punching slows down your walk speed regardless of which control scheme you're using. It is a steeper learning curve mastering good movement on top of good aim, but the same is true of Splatoon. Just gotta practice!

I can't believe I'm actually trying to defend motion controls. :L

I'm sure I was holding them properly and there didn't seem to be any synchronization issues. Nothing popped up on screen at least and every punch registered, just went straight even if I twisted or even pulled a hook. Movement was only going about one step at a time, which is a huge issue. I could block just fine and that registered every time. Unfortunately the "Test Punch" really doesn't let you play offline to try to figure out the issue and we only had an hour to play. I think Nintendo should give fans a 3 day beta weekend just like every other company does. They would guarantee to sell more copies, now I'm on the fence on rather I'm going to buy this game or not. the motion controls were quite unplayable as I couldn't move very well. In the end I still had a lot of fun with the Pro controller and kind of feeling some withdrawal from the game right now xD

I had a similar problem, but then I realized it was because I was using heavy arms. When I switched to light arms, my punches curved like I expected them to. That's why it's not a good idea to use two heavy arms at once.

I think ARMS is the next big thing for Nintendo.

The game is REALLY good. It also demonstrates the advancement of motion control technology, this is the massive leap that was required with Wii Motion + or whatever new controllers they should have had with the Wii U.

It's a lot more than just Wii Boxing, there's a lot more movement involved, WAY more moves, weapons, etc... It's probably more like Smash Brothers, but with the thrill and flash of Mario Kart, and unlike Mario Kart - it is completely fresh.

My one complaint is that I wish there was a mode that was similar to Smash, in that you rack up as many kills or damage as possible in the time period, rather than just simply being the last one left in a 3 or 4 player match. I got the hang of the three player matches though, just dodge like crazy and try to manuever the other two into attacking each other. No plan is perfect, but it plays to stay active and take out the stronger character, or just avoid the fight as much as possible. Anyway, the avoidance strategy would be invalidated if it tracked damage delt rather than being the last one left.

ARMS is the most fun game on Switch right now, it surpasses Mario Kart in its base game.

Like Medisti said, some arms curve better than others, so that could explain the curving issue. Unfortunately I don't know what to say about about the slow movement, perhaps just not tilting enough? But hey if you enjoyed non-motion controls then there's no harm just sticking with them. Even though the motion controls worked fine for me I wanna be able to play this game in handheld mode so I'm using traditional controls from here on. Also there's another round of Test Punches next weekend.

For people having trouble with the controls, one thing to check is how you hold the controller, since it is not standard.

I have seen people on youtube with similar complaints, and it is because they were holding the controllers incorrectly (standard, with index fingers on triggers and thumbs on analog sticks/buttons). For ARMS, you should instead hold them sideways in a fist, so the bottom of the controller faces outward, your fingers grip around the front, and your thumbs are on the triggers.

I had finally the chance to play it yesterday. Very addictive game and I like how lobbies are done. And I'm quite good at it, was beating most of the players!

The only game I had trouble with was the volleyball. I always play Min Min, and her weapons are at a disadvantage against the heavies. Although I have found that dual Dragons work well enough, and I got a few 5-0 games during the late night round.

I also have to chime in on the motion controls being fun and working almost to perfection. As others have pointed out, MAKE SURE TO HOLD THE JOYCONS CORRECTLY. They're supposed to be held sideways in relation to the screen, with the thumbs on top.

Yeah, that was the problem 100% of the time with the youtubers, complaining about movement but holding the controllers wrong, even though the game showed you how to hold them. The movement won't work correctly unless you play with thumbs on the triggers.

A good strategy I found was to head into practice between all matches, and practice jumping + dashing and then striking at the targets. You can really hone your aiming skills that way. Some players are clueless as to how to move out of the way/hit attacks away, they are easy to jump above and throw. So practice throws a lot too.

It is certainly a very unique and welcomed take in the fighting genre. I'm still a fan of more traditional fighters (hyped for tekken 7) but this can be another breakout hit for Nintendo. They are successfully building new franchise in "new genres" (fighting and shooters) that suit their image/style and that's fairly impressive.
