Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rime reviews are trickling in! (Launch trailer added)

Now that some reviews for Rime are in...

I'll be getting it right away 0 0%

I'll get it eventually 28 84.85%

I have no interest in Rime 5 15.15%

Total:33

I was very hyped for this 3 years ago, yet currently I'm between not interested and get it eventually. Somehow it doesn't look all that appealing. I watched the trailer on psn today and it left me cold. 82 metascore is pretty good, but I rather trust my gut.

It sounds like it was originally MS that greenlit it, and then Sony, so I guess both of them passed on it.

No this was pitched to MS and they asked for 3 million to fund it I believe and MS passed on it, Sony greenlit the project as an exclusive but then dropped it. And considering that it is releasing at all it seems the reasons given on Neogaf were all BS, this game caught my eye since it was annouced good to see that it will be a solid game.

Now but at the time of the contract and the time limits put upon it originally, it might have been in a far worse state. First shown in 2013, so 4 years of development, Sony might have become impatient, especially if they weren't given anything and nothing had changed since the original trailer.

Regardless, I'm glad the game is out and getting good scores, plus more people get to play it as it's on more systems.

Hmm, pie.

Launch trailer added.

Also, 37 reviews in now and it sits at 81.

I think I recall there being some bad news about this game a while back so it's good to hear that it's getting good reviews instead.

It brings to mind the question as to why Sony drop this as an exclusive.

Probably over concerns in development. A budget was approved then the game was still not ready over 3 years later.  It also apparently underwent some pretty dramatic design changes after the attention it's E3 exposure brought in. This might have concerned upper managment, afterall, Sony have been burned a few times by this kind of thing in the past.

TW re-aquired the rights then had two relatively unknown publishers put the game on all platforms. I wonder if the huge exposure meant they could leverage funding elsewhere, expand, and try to make more money going multi-platform.

Seems like it's another game that's dividing opinions somewhat. It's getting both high praise from some people and criticized by others. Still looks interesting though. Might get it sometime later.

Anything 80+ on PS4 is a good game.

Agreed. 80+ is good on any platform.

Metacritic score sounds accurate to my assumption. 80 is a good start.
