Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Project CARS 2 Developer Will Not Hold Back Potential Xbox Scorpio Enhancements Because of PS4 PRO

When we had the chance to speak to Andy Tudor of Slightly Mad Studios, the Creative Director of the upcoming Project CARS 2, we asked him about the various upgrades that the Scorpio provides, such as FreeSync and HDMI 2.1, asking him what this would mean for someone playing his game on Microsoft’s upcoming system. He was very clear in stating that the Scorpio enhancements for the game would not be held back because of the PS4 Pro.

“We may go higher resolution on Scorpio compared to Pro, or we may keep lower res but increase detail. Again, too early to say, and if we can do something extra on Scorpio easily we will do, we won’t hold it back due to Pro,” he said. The game adopts an improved version of the Madness engine which is scaleable across modern hardware so it’s great to see that the game could potentially utilize the full power of Scorpio, provided the development team decides to do so.

This is good to hear and hopfully more devs feel the same way.  Project Scorpio should not be held back by weaker hardware.

I want to see which will look better on Scorpio. Forza 7 or Project Cars 2.

Not that there is any noticeable difference.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I also thought about that. Now I really want to see the game.

Well...yeah. Devs didn't hold back on PS4 because of the Xbox One, I assume most Scorpio games will have a higher resolution or what not.

I'm just going to save Digital Foundry some time and write the conclusion for the faces offs over the next few years:

PC> Scorpio> Pro>PS4>Xbox One> possibly Switch

Yeah, I kinda thought this was obvious...it has been happening for years...since the early PC days. If a company is developing software on 2 platforms that can both easily be programmed but one has a bit more juice that version is going to be more fleshed out in terms of special effects, particle effects, polycount, resolution etc. As others have mentioned PS4 devs didn't hold back on Xbone ports so I would really expect no less from scorpio devs.

Why would they? If you have overhead then you should use it. The key word here, though, is "easily," which in business is almost synonymous with "cheaply." I wouldn't expect significant differences outside routine scaling.

I hope they do everything they can on both boxes so we can see the actual, real-world contrast.

The irony is that the game will be held back the most by the lowest common denominator and that's the original xb1.

"and if we can do something extra on Scorpio easily we will do, we won’t hold it back due to Pro,"

nice!
