With Best Buy and Amazon programs, nobody in the US should pay more then $48 plus sales tax for a new physical console game, unless it is a collectors edition. So, the market has spoken, and that's what they're worth.

Personally, I don't like to buy digital games, because they are almost always more expensive than physical. However, I'm starting to value the convenience of not having to change disks to play different games. Still, I don't buy AAA games digitally unless they're old, and cheap. I'm thinking I may buy Destiny 2 digitally though, as I will likely be playing if off-and-on for years, and I don't want to do all of that disk switching.

I never cared for that, until I started playing in VR. Switching disks with a headset on, no. Take it off, get it back on just right and find the controllers again, hassle.

On the other hand, since I have the luxury of both a ps4 and ps4 pro, it sucks when the digital game I want to play is on the 'wrong' console. Can't simply pop in the disk and start it (after a short install). Plus my shelf of psvr games looks kinda sad, while tons of great games sit on my ps4 taking up hdd space.

On the left foot, I paid more for a physical version of Syberia 3, only to come home to it downloading the entire game as a day 1 patch. Still couldn't play until the next day. How useful are physical editions nowadays, apart from being able to sell/trade them.

On the right foot, I bought Journey physical edition when it came out (already owned all the games) to have it all together with some extras. However only the digital versions granted me the ps4 versions of Flow, Flower and Journey. Physical only works on ps3. I did not triple dip in the ps4 physical edition.

Paying $60 (or CAD 80 here) for a digital license, don't think I'll ever do that.

Worth is subjective, end of discussion. Complaining about prices of luxury goods is ridiculous.

Healthcare and education used to be luxuries too, and it is still is in some industrialized countries. Necessities evolved too over time you know, just like human consciousness.

Yep, but today and for the forseeable future video games are a luxury. Other than for healthcare and education, for video games there are plenty alternatives.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

What people are willing to spend for them, I rarely buy games above the €45- mark. Except for franchises like Uncharted or games where I am really excited for.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Games based on inflation are cheaper than ever it seems but for me. Game I want £40. Game I want to try, even if it could be awesome, £20-25.

Rare is it I would buy one above £40, infact can't remember the last one I did. Got Mass Effect Andromeda for £38 and getting Tekken 7 for £37.

Hmm, pie.

5 daala or no buy

The new SF for Switch shouldnt be more than 15-20$.
Its a 20+ year old game, with a minor graphics update.

It still looks really dated, compaired to newer Street Fighters, or other current gen Fighters.

Has that changed over the years though? I spend much less on games now than 5 or 10 years ago, while playing the same amount. Q4 used to up to 8 $60 game purchases. Last Q4 I made only 2 $60 game purchases.

Does age matter? Older movies get rereleased too on 4K and cost the same as new movies while you can get the blu-ray for $5.

The resellability of physical games is an important consideration as well. I used to resell about 80% of the games I bought. Nowadays, I resell probably about half.

When I resold a lot, and stayed a year or more behind the release schedule, I was able to play video games for a net cost of about $100 per year. That was always my goal, and I usually hit it. I'm thinking my gaming hobby costs me more like $300 per year now, plus a few hundred of hardware once every few years.

Games nowadays are worth to the common gamer what he deserves. Indie crap and AAA developed by b-teams.

This is the most reasonable response.
