Worth is subjective, end of discussion. Complaining about prices of luxury goods is ridiculous.

Healthcare and education used to be luxuries too, and it is still is in some industrialized countries. Necessities evolved too over time you know, just like human consciousness.

What op fails to realize is that inflation is also lowering your salary.

For me it depends what a game it is, even some nieche game like SF2HD could be worth the expensive 40€ price tag if you assume that it could be a game on low print run, which can hold or exceeds its original value. Thats different with million sellers of your average AAA game on the other hand.

With digital games i view it as a waste of money to spend 60 bucks on air, in my eyes. I am only thinking about getting Tekken 7 digital as it was a game that i played the most last gen, and it would be annoying to swap the disc to play some rounds online, but thats like one exception.
I am only getting digital versions of older games if i already own it in physical form if there is no new physical version available.

I dont have a way to answer the OP, but I do know this is absolutely wrong and not healthy for industry and gamer alike. Terms like AAA or AA ext are not for you. These terms relate to expected budget that the game will amass. It in no cements the final quality/content of a game; a AAA can be a complete disaster in terms of quality/content while that indie game can end up being something that you wouldn't had minded spending more on if you had known the quality of the game.

Judging by its cover vs the lasting impression.

"Not for me?" How's the weather up there on your pedestal? FYI I assigned that arbitrary name and value based on what we've been given - ie, Ratchet & Clank didn't cost as much as Uncharted, and was priced at $40 msrp, sounds like the same will happen with Crash Trilogy. I don't intentionally wait for sales on physical, these are just the prices we usually get for new games. (Other than 'indie,' haven't bought any of those physical yet, but keep eyeing Shovel Knight at Best Buy for $20. No time for it just yet.)

Beautiful. Will have bright sunny but also breezy weather throughout the week leading into a warmer Memorial weekend... or so they say. San Diego loves to shit on you sometimes.

Seriously though how ironic. You are you the one that said AAA games are worth the $60 price tag regardless of the final outcome, and you know AAA games are rarely live up to hype or are even finished for that matter, but anything not under the AAA umbrella? Not a chance it could be worth anything over 40. Not to mention, Ratchet and Clank was not priced at 40 because it didnt have a Uncharted budget, but because Insomniac didnt want it to get Lost amongst all the high profile software released in that timeframe. That's the same story with similar priced games - Its to push you over that "maybe, maybe not wall".

Imo I usually buy used games for 20 bucks locally and sell them for more on Amazon after I play them lol

Don't compare gaming to healthcare.

Just don't.

I just did

That's a cool chart in the OP.

I've gotten pretty good at determining which games I'll really enjoy from the trailers or gameplay footage. If I think it looks great, I'll buy it at full price, whatever that price happens to be. If I'm unsure, then I either just skip it regardless of price, or grab it cheap. For me it's really that simple.

This is probably my end mindeset as well.

What is a game worth, or what is SF 2 worth?

Wasn't the SF 2 HD like $15 back in 2008? So absolutely that isn't anywhere close to $40 in 2017.

Then you are mixing in services that "only" give you older games (like Xbox pass) with services that just happen to give you games (GWG, PS) with VR, indie, and mobile games.

You can't compare any of those against any of those.

That was a digital download though. Not a physical cart with both original and remix mode and extras (succesful or not)
The physical release (together with 7 other games) was $40. Ofcourse if you like all 8 that's only $5 per game.

I mixed in services since I'm just as curious what people think game services are worth, next to what owning games on physical or digital is worth. I pay $10 a month for standard Netflix. How is $15 for game streaming not reasonable next to that.

VR games, indie games, mobile games, all games. What's a good price for them?

VR games seem to come at a premium in the time value department. Yet it's a new format like 4K UHD movies which come at a premium price. Why is it wrong for VR games to cost more? The userbase is still tiny.

Indie games always have a struggle when trying to go bigger and ask a bit more. It's like they all should stay in the $20 bracket.

Mobile games seem to have put themselves in a tough spot. If $10 is too much, then how are those mobiles, that come ever closer to console like possibilities, going to sell $60 games?

Excellent value in gaming these days. Especially with ps plus and psn sales for me. I'm happy.

Just don't.

We need a single-payer retail system for games to correct the inhumane injustice that is gaming inequality.  The privileged have enjoyed their Xboxes, PlayStations, and master race PC rigs at the expense of marginalized gamers for far too long...

*Free videogames for everyone NOW!!!

*Free in this case meaning taxpayer-subsidized videogames and game consoles at a far higher cost to the consumer than what the actual market value for said games and consoles is.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
