Forums - Gaming Discussion - The lowest possible PC settings vs what Nin. Switch has: Overwatch discussion

Overwatch and the Switch is a debate that has gone on for a while, but I have gotten the following from it.

"Switch is weaker than PS4 XBoX 1 (how much is really debatable though), but the Switch is stronger than the absolute minimum Overwatch PC specs."

Overwatch's Min specs are as follows

  • Operating system: Windows Vista/7/ 8/10 64-bit (latest Service Pack)
  • Processor: Intel Core i3 or AMD Phenom X3 865.
  • Video: Nvidia GeForce GTX 460, ATI Radeon HD 4850, or Intel HD Graphics 4400.
  • Memory: 768 MB VRAM, 4 GB System RAM.
  • Storage: 7200 RPM with 5 GB available HD space.

With that in mind, how does the Switch measure against these?

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

HD 4400 is laughably weak. I'm pretty sure the Switch is stronger than it by a decent amount. i'm not an expert however. My opinion doesn't mean much due to how little I know about PC's

Well the Switch can run Steep which has more demanding minimum spec requirements:

Supported OS: Windows® 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 or Windows® 10(64bit versions)
Processor: Intel Core i5 2400s at 2.5 Ghz or AMD FX-4100 at 3.6 Ghz
Memory: 6GB
Video Card: GeForce GTX560Ti or AMD Radeon R7 260X
DirectX: DX 10
Hard Drive Space: 25 GB

So I couldn't see how the Switch couldn't run a version of Overwatch with low settings.

Here is some footage of Overwatch on it's lowest settings to give a further idea;

"Nvidia GeForce GTX 460, ATI Radeon HD 4850, or Intel HD Graphics 4400"

Oh dear...460 is quite a bit faster than 4850 and they both literally embarrass 4400.

In addition, PC minimum specs are never actually minimum specs, most games will run on much weaker hardware then specified...it's just a cut-off point for publishers not wanting to deal with support.

Specs were never the issue.

The always online requirement for a mobile device without 3G/4G is the issue.

Hotspots? Plus it wouldn't be the Switch's first online shooter (Splatoon 2), and they could add local multiplayer.

It always have wifi/lan on docked mode, so its not really a problem
3G/4G is unnecessary for portable platforms, and available only on VITA, that doesnt made any better

An ancient GTX 460 still is twice as fast as Tegra X1 devices higher clocked than a Switch:

A GTX 460 is still a 1 TFLOP card, it's not far behind a PS4/XB1.

Splatoon has an offline single player mode.  Overwatch does not.  And you cannot trust the quality or reliability of hotspots for mobile gaming.  And you have little options if you are in motion (car, bus, train, etc...).

But that offline single player mode is like 3 hours at most in length if we look at the first game. That really doesn't justify having it on the Switch and not Overwatch. If even the 3DS can have an MMO like Dragon Quest X on it, (which the Switch is also getting) it can get an online shooter.
