Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Store Now Has Curation From Big Developers

As we’ve discussed, Steam’s implementation of third-party curation has been a bit of a mess. So it’ll be interesting to see how Sony fares now that they’re trying something similar.

Valve Still Hasn't Fixed Steam Curators

As part of the recent Steam front page revamp, Valve gave curators an even more prominent spot and…

Launching today, The Creators is an attempt by Sony to get curation on the PlayStation store, only instead of turning to “influencers”, they’ve asked people responsible for actually making games to do it instead.

The initial lineup of creators include PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida, the development team behind Final Fantasy XV, Media Molecule co-founder Siobahn Reddy and CAPY.

Sure, there are some predictable and repeat choices—lots of people like good games, and most suggest their own releases!—but also some very useful spotlights for games you’ve probably missed/forgotten about, and which appear for the most part to be genuine recommendations. Yoshida gives a shout-out to the excellent Sound Shapes, for example (a game he used to talk about a lot on Twitter), while Rocket League creators Psyonix are here to remind us about Sportsfriends and VIDEOBALL.

I’m curious to see where this goes. I never even look at curator recommendations on Steam, but short, sharp picks from PlayStation developers are something I’m more inclined to at least browse through, if only because it’s a simpler, more direct means of checking out someone’s selections.

The Creators is live in the US store as you read this, but if it’s not available on your local store, you can still have a look via this link.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Well, it's certainly not a bad feature to have. I haven't used it almost at all on Steam and I think I'm not going to use it much on PSN either, but it's not a bad feature.

Yeah, I mean...I think it's cool mostly because it seems to have a bunch of games that are fairly similar in style to the ones made by each developer. So if you're a big fan of say Supergiant, then you can look at it and see some games that might also interest you.

I think these sorts of features will go ignored by relatively informed people like us, but will see decent usage from others who aren't sure where to even start in the store.

Yeah, I noticed that while looking at the recommendations from the initial curators. It would be better if Store could recommend them automatically better, but this is good too.

Yeah, I agree with that. This could be really useful for people who don't follow Playstation that closely.

Won't affect my purchases but good to see them doing it for those it will benefit.

I think it's an interesting feature for those who like certain creators. I, for instance, am very curious about what games Miyazaki-san (From Software developer of souls games) would recommend.

A warrior keeps death on the mind from the moment of their first breath to the moment of their last.

That's pretty cool actually. Now people will have clear indications of what games to avoid.

LoD recommendations will be everywhere.

How can anyone recommend something that don't exist.
