Yeah. I love RPGs. But if in an RPG its more beneficial to actively avoid battle since 1. Leveling up is almost non existent and 2. You risk using important items because you NEED a sticker (or whatever the hell its called here) to attack.
It's just not fun and becomes a chore. If they want it to be more action-oriented like they said... make it more like Super Paper Mario because it's pretty clear right now that the battle system in the last 2 games have been an afterthought.
Also, there's been no character variety since SPM. Toads w/ different colors doesnt count or cut it

You're pretty much on point with everything you said lol.
Also, I hate the bullshit excuse that the Mario and Luigi series is enough of a supplement for Mario RPGs. It's not. Both Paper Mario 1-3 and the Mario and Luigi series offered unique gameplay experiences that were fun in their own ways.

Oh yeah, they really are. Look, I like the Mario and Luigi games, theyre fine. But thats a very different beast to the Paper Mario games. I agree, it isn't enough. Like you said they provide different RPG experiences. People will eventually stop playing Paper Mario games if they continue this trend. And then Nintendo will pull the whole, "Well we MADE Paper Mario games but no one bought them so we're done with them." -being completely blind to the fact it was because they messed it up to begin with; but instead blame the fans, again
Paper Mario has fallen into the same pitfall as other Nintendo series such as Star Fox and Metroid. Being gimmicky experimental games versus what the fanbase is asking for
