Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Paper Mario Color Splash sold better than expected. <(-_-<)

I believe most Paper Mario fans can agree that the series has been in decline since the 3DS version.  One can only hope that Nintendo will stop using bs gimmicks in the Paper Mario series and return to traditional form with the Switch version.  I'm still forcing myself through the 3DS version recently after dropping it a few years ago after a foul distaste.

It still saddens me that so many people are trying to praise CS while it has so many flaws compared to the previous games. Nintendo won't learn anything from this. Some people actually bash the minimal/practically non-existent flaws of TTYD to justify CS. It makes me sick.

They'll never let you change it! You must always stay as Einsam_Delphin!

Most likely as I know they hate me but I figured I'd atleast try.

Not sure what Ultra smash is, but Color Splash isn't bad in its concept, but rather the execution of that concept (cards replacing battling, mainly), where as amiibo festival was just bad in concept and so was star fox zero. There are plenty of redeemable parts of Color Splash (it is pretty funny, I liked the paint part of the game, I really enjoyed the soundtrack because of how different it felt from other games, and some other things), where as NOTHING and I mean NOTHING was good about Star Fox zero (the same ol' story, completed in 2 hours or less, with barely better visuals than Assault, and hardly nothing changed about the combat which made it feel like an arcade game). Zero was an embarrassment to Platinum and Nintendo and doesn't seem like any effort was given there.

Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, was revealed and released alongside amiibo Festival.

If I could just play Zero without motion controls I would actually like the game overall. Gyrowing and Walker would still suck, but the otherwise classic Starfox gameplay is greatly appreciated. The unchanged gameplay since SF64 is actually how I know I'd like it because I enjoyed SF64. I had replayed it before Zero launched to make sure it wasn't just nostalgia.

I enjoyed 64 a ton as a kid, but they haven't changed anything in how the game works sense then (other than Adventure, which I loved) and that gets boring. I want some new things to tinker around with and I don't mean motion or gyro controls and the walker was just stupid.

The first 3 Paper Mario's did everything better than the last two. The sales and reviews prove this. You can't call me a troll for having so many legitimate issues with the downgraded Paper Mario's.

They said they had two rpg mario games (Superstar Saga series being the other one) and they wanted them to be more distinguished so they turned Paper Mario into their innovation game series. Sticker Star and Color Splash are innovative, just not in a way most of the fans like. And I don't mind their logic here, I just wish it had been Paper Mario that was allowed to stick to RPG roots while the other one could be more radical. Oh well, they will probably look at decreased sales and assume no one wants Paper Mario anymore instead of assuming the right thing that they should make a TRUE sequel to (in my opinion) the single greatest video game of all time (TTYD).

On the good news... Nintendo seems to be on an upswing with IPs... Zelda, Mario (look and for one is phenomenal). Others like Splatoon 2, and ARMS look to be good. I'm thinking NIntendo got some of their ambition they lost in the Wii U era, so maybe... just maybe.... they'll do Paper Mario proper again.

Thats unfortunate. I refuse to play the series until they fix their battle system

Same. I'm not even against the idea of using other battle systems, like the platforming in SPM, just make the gameplay deeper and more RPG like! .-.

This game would've had a much more different reception if they made it (and Sticker Star) a new IP.

Yeah. I love RPGs. But if in an RPG its more beneficial to actively avoid battle since 1. Leveling up is almost non existent and 2. You risk using important items because you NEED a sticker (or whatever the hell its called here) to attack.

It's just not fun and becomes a chore. If they want it to be more action-oriented like they said... make it more like Super Paper Mario because it's pretty clear right now that the battle system in the last 2 games have been an afterthought.

Also, there's been no character variety since SPM. Toads w/ different colors doesnt count or cut it

You're pretty much on point with everything you said lol.

Also, I hate the bullshit excuse that the Mario and Luigi series is enough of a supplement for Mario RPGs. It's not. Both Paper Mario 1-3 and the Mario and Luigi series offered unique gameplay experiences that were fun in their own ways.

Oh yeah, they really are. Look, I like the Mario and Luigi games, theyre fine. But thats a very different beast to the Paper Mario games. I agree, it isn't enough. Like you said they provide different RPG experiences. People will eventually stop playing Paper Mario games if they continue this trend. And then Nintendo will pull the whole, "Well we MADE Paper Mario games but no one bought them so we're done with them." -being completely blind to the fact it was because they messed it up to begin with; but instead blame the fans, again

Paper Mario has fallen into the same pitfall as other Nintendo series such as Star Fox and Metroid. Being gimmicky experimental games versus what the fanbase is asking for

Please do not pretend your opinion about Color Splash is a fact just because you played TTYD.

Don't pretend you are right because you put many points on there since most of them are just bullshit. Some of you want to believe is bad because of pure and stupid pride, that's all. Game was good, get over it.
