Never understood making a console game more demanding than the console its on...

The problem is that the Jaguar CPU cores are starting to become really dated. They're basically slightly souped up in comparison to Intel's Atom line...

I would say their more like the CPU you find in Ultra Books.

Those weak low powered CPUs from Intel.

Like a i5-5200u (the U part is the important part, means its one of those weak lower power cores).

Dispite how much crap people give these Jaguar CPU cores from AMD used in the consoles, their probably better than any Atom CPU was.

Tbh I think this is only marketing for their game.

Well duh, framerate is largely CPU limited and the Pro only had a modest CPU bump.

It's only CPU limited when your CPU is a potato. Regular gaming PCs with non-vegetable based CPUs are basically never CPU limited.

I pretty clearly meant that framerate is largely decided by the capabilities of the CPU. That's regardless of how powerful the CPU really, unless the system is poorly balanced.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Pro is underpowered, everyone who wants power needed to move on PC. :D

Consoles always have shitty CPU's, perhaps the Cell aside.
Hope PS5 does not go with an APU.

Alot of it is also resource management, and how good you are about offloading things to the gpu.

Optimisation mean more than the CPU imo.

The weaker the cpu, the more you need to juggle resource management, and weigh the cost of doign certain effects ect.

I hope it does (BC for PS5).

Its cheap, and gives good bang-4-buck.

Which is pretty damn important in consoles.

Its also energy effecient to do so.

Dont you mean you "hope PS4 has a much improved CPU"? Which you can still easily have in a newer APU.

And that's even more wrong.

In 99% of gaming scenarios the GPU is the bottleneck. That's not the case for the PS4 Pro of course because GPU/CPU ratio is extremely unbalanced. But in gaming setups build by people with brains the CPU will never be a bottleneck.

I play RL @ 144fps 1440p. My CPU doesn't have a high clock and is still quite bored by it.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

The Core chips from Intel have a MUCH higher IPC. The Jaguar was certainly more performant then the Atom CPU's of yore, but the current Goldmont Atoms will be more performant.

If you want power for $299 this holiday the Pro is your best bet.  Not everyone who wants power wants to pay extra for a pc.  And ps4 has many exclusives pc doesn't so there's that too.

OT:

This is obvious.  Destiny 2 is obviously pushing boundaries and they need to keep it at 30fps to do so. The Pro is a decent upgrade not a $500/$600 console upgrade.  It's to be expected.
