You shouldn't be too surprised Just like we don't have an expectation that all consoles are active or that game sales will double on the back of consoles doubling in number , we live in a fluctuating world , members come and go, plus 26mill is way over what numbers you need to cater for the FPS online  contingent , you have people ike me who don't go online gaming very much but have been a Plus member since day one and others who sub when it suits them just to play the new version of their favorite online game while it's hot and don't resub.

Thats not answering my question and Live is on a totally different scale. 

You're right.  Live should be MUCH higher since it is on PCs and mobile devices, where as the PSN numbers are just 3 consoles, 2 of which are dying out.  If anything, the loss of 3M Live users in 3-4 months just shows the losing interest in Xbox.  In the end, Live numbers are just okay, considering all the devices that its numbers include, while the PSN numbers are great.

And to think people here used to say Sony would never charge for online play. That kind of revenue is just silly good.

A shame that in return for all that free money we've seen a massive drop in quality of PS+ games, and a still pretty lackluster PSN service. The free games drop off is natural, of course. A combination of needing big games to sell you on PS+ last gen + not needing it now that it's required for MP pretty much signaled the end of those days. Still, no Knack? No Driveclub? Infamous? Killzone? Bloodborne? There are lots of games they could give the US that retail for $20 and would be way better than the indie trash they usually give us.
