Forums - Movies & TV - Spider-Man Homecoming’s Tom Holland To Play Young Nathan Drake For Shawn Levy

Well, at least he's playing a younger version. Maybe they'll cast someone better for the "regular age" Drake.

Alternatively, they may be seeing this as a long term series a la James Bond and cast young to keep the aging in check

Do you really think they'll recast the role? I don't think Tom Holland will grow up to be 1m87.

What where Sony thinking?

This idea sounds terrible. Sony pulled a left hook the other day when Hardy was cast as Venom. Lord only knows where this idea came from.

They could have easily got Jake Gylenhall or Ryan Reynolds if Pratt was too busy / expensive.

What on earth are you talking about?

Nolan North is practically a poor mans Nathan Fillion. Obviously he has no star power, but to say he is the worst is just absurd.

Nathan Fillion is poor mans nathan fillion.. nolan north is nathan drake, and Drake happens to look like Fillion, and fillion happen to quip one liners like Nathan drake thats it, so is that the only reason he should be casted?.. it would have been a box office sucide, as it is videogame movies doesnt have great track record, the best example is Scott Pilgrim vs the world.. great movie, but coz micheal cera is not a bankable celebrity and outside of handful gamers no one went and saw the movie.

And I m saying this again Chris Pratt's character from jurrasic world is better combination than Nathan Fillion.

If it wasn't for Sony Pictures, I might have been a bit more excited for this project. However think they really missed the ball by not casting Nathan Fillion years ago and have the project made at that time.

yeah they missed out on a great chance with Fillion, he is just perfect for the role, or was perfect.

just because video game fans wants a certain type of actor because he looks similar to Nathan Fillion doesnt meanhe was the right choice.. Why would anyone who is not familiar with uncharted or plays video games wanna see a movie with an actor that anyone outside of nerd culture hardly knows off.. Uncharted with a bad script and Nathan fillion would have been DOA. uncharted with a good script and NF wouldnt have that earned much for the studio to greenlit a sequel.

plus as a fan i dont want a movie for uncharted coz nathan drake for me is Nolan north, and game is like a movie experience, But as a studio you wanna capitalize on the success of the games, so i think this is the perfect way to introduce nathan drake to general public and even gamers wouldnt mind.. young nathan drake is not nolan north, if the movie turns out to be good, tom holand will grow into adult nathan drake and the progression will be natural. Now only if they get Sully's casting right my vote goes to Tom Hanks..

I think this was the right way to go. Too hard to tell a grown up Nate story I think. And there's no need to think about whether to adapt one of the game's stories or do a totally different one. Which either way would have lead to some people being disappointed.

The other good thing about young Nate, after UC4, is that they can also weave Sam into the story. So there are 3 protagonists, and likely conflict for being Nate's mentor/protector between Sam and Sully.

So, the whole movie will revolve around young Natahn? Or just a part of it?

My guess is that it will be 100% young Nate. I think for movie audiences, if they hope at all to make a multi-movie franchise, dedicating the first movie to telling the story of how Nate and Sully became such trusted friends, in an untrustworthy "profession", is important. I personally feel the need to know the reason why, in UC1, when Nate finds out Sully survived being shot, that Nate was so sure there was an explanation other than Sully betraying Nate. And the reason for Nate's such strong trust in Sully is buried in the untold years between the UC3 Prologue and UC1. I am more than happy for the first few movies to tell those stories and to not tell any stories of UC1 and events thereafter.

Eventually the movies would have to bring us the Nate-Elena love story, if the first ones are successful. But I would say 2, maybe 3, pre-UC1 movies would be good before the briong Elena along. Including a movie that covers Sam's apparent death. Will be interesting to see how many UC movies Holland has been optioned for, because that will give us an indication of when Sony sees then transitioning to 30-something Nate and recasting the role.

Woah. So, I'm wondering if the fans of the series will like that, or if most of them will just go on about how they want adult Drake.

Speaking as a fan of the games I had a hard time seeing how a movie with grown up Drake could possibly be good. At least this way they have a fairly blank slate and no pre-conceptions about how the story should go. As long as it's an objectively good movie the fans will see it. And if it's an objectively good movie the wider movie audience should like enough to potentially get a movie franchise going. It still comes down to whether they get good writing talent on board.
