Forums - Gaming Discussion - So I finished Farpoint with the Aim Controller, who else has it?

I finished playing Farpoints Story a couple of days ago, and have been playing the challenges for the last couple of days. Waiting for my brother to finish moving before I try out the co-op.

So far I have really enjoyed the expereince. The game itseld is definitly right around the 70's, I would go 7.5 myself, but the expereince and gunplay are genre leading. This is how I want to play all first person shooters from now on.

The feeling of being in the world with the VR headset, and having the Aim in your hands just feels right. I can not emphasis just how great it feels. This is what next gen gaming is to me, the first real leap in gameplay since Goldeneye and Halo ushered in FPS on console.

It does come with its flaws though, being a first gen expereince. Aiming up in the air can be a problem when the orb on the Aim goes blocks the headset. Additionally, you are limited to about a 270 degree range of aiming. Both of these are problems with the single point of tracking on the current PSVR set-up. The system could benefit greatly from having a second camera placed behind the user to full 360 degree controller tracking, and eliminate the reliance on the single camera to track both the headset and the controller at all times.

That said though, I highly prefer this to a traditional display and conrtoller. I really hope we see a few AAA developers jump on and make FPS titles for the current headsets. With the three team approach of COD, it would be great if they made a VR exclusive title within the next year or two. I would love to see what ID, Guerrilla, Insomniac, Dice, and Crytek can do with their FPS expertise.

All in all, I am really enjoying my time with Farpoint and the Aim contoller, and as I said, I really don't see going back to non VR and motion based fps titles in the future. This is just such a superior experience, and finally advances the medium for the first time in about 20 years.

Anyone else get Farpoint and Aim? What are your thoughts?

I love it. The best experience I've had so far is aiming and shooting the sniper rifle in the game. It's so satisfying. I really think Sony should HEAVILY promote the Aim controller. It will revolutionize FPS games. My complaints in Farpoint are mostly in its visuals. The areas are mostly barren and yeah most of them are big areas you can actually explore but there's nothing in it. They could at least placed some hidden items, easter eggs, weapons and such.

But yeah if you have a PSVR or planning on buying one, make sure you get the Aim controller and Farpoint(since it's the best game for it currently). There's also Dick Wilde which offers an even more accurate tracking for the Aim controller compared to Farpoint but it's mostly just fun mini games.

Great post, I agree with everything you said. Farpoint is definitly in the AA relm, but it proves that VR FPS is ready for the big time, we just need big teams to really knock it out of the park. I played with the smooth movement, and had no issues with motion sickness, so it would have been nice to be able to jump, and look around for collectables. I am really liking the Challange mode now that I am done with the story. It feels great going on a run, and building up the multiplier.

Dick Wilde is definitly even cleaner and more consistant on the tracking side. That game is a hell of a work out though. It is really impressive how well it maintains tracking even when I am wildly ducking and moving side to side, and even shooting with the gun over my head.

Can't wait tell my brother gets done moving so he can finally get a chance to start playing.

I haven't bought it yet, no opportunity to get by the store since it came out. Kids sick, now it's Victoria day, everything closed.

I finished Polybius instead, but the last 3 throphies for platinum seem quite out of reach. It's one of those games where one little screwup can spiral into losing most of your shields. A small invulnerability grace period after getting hit would have been nice. It feels so good when stuff goes right though.

Farpoint is on my to buy list

Dont have a VR headset, or the Aim controller... but hearing stuff like this, makes me want to try it.

I'm curious; how's the tracking with these devices? Is it 1:1 (or at least does it seem that way). I know the biggest problem with Wii-motes was the tenth of a second of input lag, which can make or break the experience.

It feels exactly 1:1 for me. Dick Wilde tracks perfectly in the 5 hours I have played around with it. Farpoint has it's moments when you put the Aim in front of the headset, and it goes all crazy, but most of the time, it feels fantastic.

If you ever tried the Move on PS3 it is the same amount of tracking, but much more precise and consistant. It also helps being in VR, because it brings you and the controller into the same space, as opposed to controlling something in 3D space on a 2D display.

Farpoint isn't 100% 1:1 but it feels like it. If you just stay still and aim you'll see the gun shake a tad but it's not even close to being noticeable when you're actually shooting aliens or focused on the battles. Dick Wilde however, is pretty much spot on. I have not noticed any kind of input lag at all.

Hopefully, the Aim controller becomes a massive selling point to Playstation exclusive deals with third party developers. Farpoint just debuted 2nd in the Uk charts last week. That's the highest debut of any VR title across all platforms ever in the UK. Although, hopefully, it has legs at least.

aaaaand the bundle is sold out and going for 145 bucks on amazon. C'mon Sony, you don't need to have stock issues with everything VR related!

Edit: Bundle also sold out at gamestop and bestbuy (all online, US)
