Forums - Sony Discussion - Can I play Persona 5 even if I never played any Persona games?

Title states my question. Will I understand the story? Is the series like Final Fantasy where each game is unrelated to the previous ones?

It's pretty much like FF. There are very minimal references to other games in the series.

Persona 5's story and characters are completely standalone from past entries, so you're good.

Only thing you'd miss out on are a handful of character name drops and references from past games.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Persona 4 was my first, Never had the feeling I was left out, though I heard some characters were from p3 but that was not required to know at all.

Yes, And you can change battle difficulty.

I'm sure you must have played one personal game.

As the others said, yes, you can jump in without having played the previous titles. You'll only miss minimal references.

BTW, love your avatar. Best high five in the history of manga ^^

Yes go ahead, enjoy Persona 5.

The answer is a resounding "YES." If it is a spin-off, then I'd advise caution on your part.

Then again, the only title I've played from start to finish has been Persona Q...

Yea it's pretty good. You won't get as much out of it as Skyrim but it's the best jrpg I've played since star ocean 2
