I don't understand why people are saying the reasoning is poor. The project lead said it's not feasible. I think he probably knows more than pretty much anyone in the world what kind of work it would take to get their game onto the Switch and what kind of experience that game would be on the Switch. It's pretty clear he thinks that's not the kind of experience Bungie deems worthwhile to pursue.

he didnt say anything about the work to port it or performance, he said it was because its an online only game.

I don't think you understand, my point was that it appears to me he's saying the experience the game would offer on the Switch doesn't appear to justify the work to do it. I'm not commenting at at all on how difficult or whether the Switch could handle it.

Destiny doesn't really need to be online only. Just like Diablo 3.

because you just believe so? Sure perhaps it doesnt have to be but the entire game is designed around it being an online experience.

Isn't that what Blizzard said about Diablo 3. Now it can be perfectly played offline. The similarities in design between Diablo 3 and Destiny are extensive, genre notwithstanding.

Perhaps I should have made myself clearer. I didn't mean to comment on the diffiulty of porting to the Switch, or the performance of the Switch. My point was that it appears to me he's saying that Bungie might not be comfortable putting in the effort for a result that doesn't mean their threshold of "an acceptable experience". They might not comfortable making a game that forces users of a semi-portable console to only play it while connected to a TV, or sees their users getting frustrated playing an online-only game against other players online that have much better connections than they do, and the kind of experience that entails. I'm not too sure.

It's just entirely possible they did properly investigate this and came to a conclusion of "this is how Destiny 2 would run and play on the Switch at home and on the go" and decided against that.

Yeah Nintendo thinks Mario Kart, ARMS and Splatoon are just fine on ethe Switch (hint: they are all heavily online mp focused) but no Destiny 2 wont be possible.....

Just be honest, or at least say that you don't want to waste developement time and cost on a port that might not sell well with the Nintendo audience and that is going to take a lot of optimization to run well on the hardware.

I wonder how many people will take this is 'Switch can't run Destiny 2'.

Maybe if they strip a lot of it. Based on the reveal, game looks extremly demanding

What do people expect?

This pretty much, that's not even the reason he gave but yet some people will still just try to say it was that regardless.

Given that it's an online only game, and it would be a pain in the ass to likely port, yeah I mean I get it.

Why would you buy the game on Switch, virtually any Destiny fan should own a PS4 or XB1 anyway, so you'd be getting an inferior game that they would have to sell for $60 that wouldn't have any of the features that make Switch versions unique.

It doesn't make much sense. But other games, sure.

In just as shocking news water is wet, cats still hate dogs and Breath of the Wild is still not coming to PS4.
