I should have been more clear. My bad.

When I say poor reasoning I don't mean its a terrible excuse. I mean to say that he didn't think it through. Even if the device is portable, it does not mean that it HAS to be portable. It may double as both a handheld and a console, but that does not mean you have to use both. There are already some games that are portable only because it uses the touch screen only. In the case of Destiny 2, If they needed the system to work solely as a home console to make it work smoothly, they could certainly talk to Nintendo about making that arrangment.

With that said there could be complications down the line, mainly because of the vocal Nintendo fanbase that would draw the same conclusion and complain its not portable. Not to say it couldn't work portably, but I imagine it could have problems.

So I think its certainly a decent excuse, but the reasoning itself is poor to me because it is rather short sighted in my opinion.

I'm sure nintendo requires all games that run on dock mode to be able to run on portable mode. Kind of their whole message with the console, I could be wrong though.

Yeah, you have to support both docked mode and portable mode on the Switch unless you're using touchscreen controls, in which case you're allow to support portable mode only.

I'd still rather have this than the Titanfall 2 guy's response.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

It's a fair reasoning, that said the Switch is getting Dragon Quest X, but I imagine they envision that as a home only experience.

Would you happen to have a source for this? Not that I disbeleive you, but I just can't seem to find that anywhere

Damn it would of been Destiny 2 fail anyway :p

Switch has no games!

Even the 3DS had at least one online-only game. That's not a reason.

Unfortunately my source isn't online. I totally understand if you want to take that with a grain of salt, but I don't have anything to back up that claim.

I don't understand why people are saying the reasoning is poor. The project lead said it's not feasible. I think he probably knows more than pretty much anyone in the world what kind of work it would take to get their game onto the Switch and what kind of experience that game would be on the Switch. It's pretty clear he thinks that's not the kind of experience Bungie deems worthwhile to pursue.

he didnt say anything about the work to port it or performance, he said it was because its an online only game.

Nah. I will take your word for it. I think that even in a case like that, however, the devs could try to at least discuss it with Nintendo on whether or not they could be an exception. The reason I think its largely poor reasoning is that they didn't actually weigh their options and went off the first thought that came to mind.

If they did discuss it with Nintendo, how would we know about it? Such conversations would be held under pretty strict NDAs.
