Well, I didn't really like Lawlight's post either, but the NES Classic is not an NES, it's an NES emulator, so its sales shouldn't really count towards the original NES.

If it looks like a NES and plays like a NES.........

Does it play the 712 NES games?

It doesn't play like a NES. Let me know when I can play my beloved Battle Tank, Arkanoid, Final Fantasy games on it.

I've not tried all 712 but it plays the 30 it came with and everything else I've downloaded from the unofficial eshop.

Well, it doesn't really play like an NES, as the NES has completely different architecture.

You can't expect Nintendo to use 30yr old, useless, outdated technology, they're not communists.

I agree with you.

Makes you wonder why they're discontinuing it.

They should make a slightly more expensive retro-console, with spare storage capacity and the ability to buy and download other legacy titles for <$5 per game. 8GB of storage capacity should be enough to buy almost the entire NES/SNES and possibly even N64 libraries.

If raspberry pi2 can run a PS1 simulator then Nintendo can absolutely make a cheap retro console capable of running N64, SNES and NES games.

Sony must surely not be far off being able to sell a $50 unit with a bunch of pre-loaded PS1 games with the capacity to download and play the PS1 and PS2 library.

62M NES..... and the gap just got bigger.

This. Of course, even if you did it would be 64M.  The PS4 is probably going to match that this quarter and then leave it in the dust by the end of the year.

@ OP

Not really surprising.  A $60 device that pulls on the nostalgia strings just had its last stock available.  It's why the Retron HD is doing so well on Amazon.  Nintendo really should have made more.  Sure, it probably would have slowly died after 5M-10M sales, but that's still a lot of extra income.

Really doesn't surprise me. I will say that NES classic has lost and won to PS4 and Xbone so people can't say it's absolutely to be expected.

I tried my hardest to get one, the closest I got to one was seeing the "add to cart" button on AmazonPrime but when I tried to add it...it was already gone. I hope I can get a SNES classic.

Wow really a discontinued very popular 60 bucks system wins agains a system (s) that's still around 300 bucks and always available.

What a shock!!
