Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Arms first look (Digital Foundry)

The possibility that ARMS is using the MK8 engine is interesting ,that could have saved Nintendo a lot of money aswell as setting a far lower number of copies sold to break even, I hope they use some of that money for extra marketing/ads

60fps is no surprise, but damn 1080p? Did not expect that! This game looks amazing so that resolution will be very much appreciated!

Honestly I don't really know why would anybody be very interested in what the resolution for handheld split screen mode is because who the hell is gonna play Arms that way? Mk8 is simple enough to do it but with Arms looks like a mess to play that way.

Interesting on a technical level, not a functional one.

That's docked or hand-held?

Probably docked, given the Switch's screen is 720p.

It'll be interesting to see what resolution the split screen modes are. We do have precedent for a 900p docked title being 720p in handheld mode (Zelda), but that never lined up with what the Switch should be doing (unless the Switch has a bottleneck we don't know about, but i can't imagine what).

0_0 I guess I have short term memory or something, because I forgot that the screen was only 720p!

What are you talking about? I can just see the Nintendo commercial now.

A group of fit college guys go to a gym and are boxing with each other. They then stop boxing in real life and set up their switch and start fake boxing on the little table mode with joycons matching their boxing gloves they had on earlier.

You know, just like how they stopped playing real basketball to play 2k sports.

Arms looks like a different case, split screen on handheld mode would make the image just too little for this one and the real way to play it is with motion controls, 2 guys sitting close to each other playing Arms with motion controls sounds very stressful, more than 2 sounds almost impossible.

They used the Mario Kart engine. Excellent. I now know the game will be run excellently. I know the downgrade to 30fps in four player split screen will be a downer to some people but as long as it is a consistent 30, I will be able to make the adjustment.

I am very excited for this title.

So, do that mean they improved the game resolution? I may be wrong, but i remember the analysis on the reveal trailer It was at 720p with antialiasing.
That give me hope about Mario odyssey, that the revealtrailer was at 720p too.

1080p + 60 fps on top of having the what looks to me like the best graphics on the Switch is fantastic.
