And this is probably still subject to some adjustments as the numbers are a bit low for 7.63M Consoles shipped. I could see 3-400k on shelves, and even then barely for many regions, but the way it's heading would indicate twice as many consoles in storage.

Edit: Which week is Mario Odyssey release week?

Week 35.

So, probably in the 37-38 week Switch will outperform PS4.

Switch already does outperform PS4 on a weekly basis.

Question is when will Switch outsell PS4? Probably week 43-44, in the midst of holidays.

Are we looking at something like PS4 that depending on the alignment was ahead of PS2 for a long time but we expect to have less legs and end bellow PS2, or will Switch keep it up for the whole time? And will it sell long enough for it to pass PS4? How much will PS5 and perhaps PSP2 impact Switch and make nintendo go with Switch 2 sooner than later?

Perhaps Nintendo will be able to have Switch+ or similar with almost gen jump but keep name and userbase so they can rack a lot of sales?

Too many variables at the moment...

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

You think PSP2 is a thing?

Not really. But Sony seeing Switch success they may be tempted to release a "portable" version of PS5 that plays exactly the same game but on speced down.

So would that be digital-only? Or would PS5 use cartridges or mini-discs?

I'm pretty sure Sony would sell their entire company before attempting another portable.

That is a good question considering PSPGo failed so hard...

I don't think it would be good to go full digital, have different formats to the games or using a more expensive format to all.

One thing they could try to make happen is you being able to make a flash copy of your BD on the card and validate it with using only your PSN account to validate you still own the game (somewhat convoluted).

So In the end they would need the "portable" to have at least enough size to fit a BD reader for you to install and keep the disc inside. Considering people are loving the tablets nowadays a 7 or 10" tablet with pads on the sides isn't that bad for today market

A blu-ray disc on its own is 4.7 inches in diameter. Setting aside the fact that there's no way you could fit an entire BD reader in a 7" tablet, since a BD's diameter is much longer than the height of the screen, any tablet at all with a disc drive would be absurdly thick. You couldn't possibly use full-size blu-rays and still have a console that actually works as a handheld.

That is why I put 10", Switch is a lot ticker than a tablet and I see no issue with that.

But I agree with you that it would be quite complex to make a PS5 portable reading full size BD, but perhaps they will be able to have mini BD with 8 layers that could replace the BD of PS5 need.

On the size of the reader, PSVita and PSP used discs right? So Maybe they don't need to that thick.

Sony is the one that need to make it happen, I am just saying they could be enthiced by Nintendo success with Switch.
