So the extra stuff equals 8 more points? well then... good i bought all that extra DLC for 15 on a PSN Flash sale months ago, (also got the game for 29.99 on the same sale, good stuff).

And portability.

As expected the scored will be boosted on Switch.
Though this score will drop, it should land around a 85, still decently above the PS4 version.
It's the very same game the PS4 got, but will likely get less reviews and that will benefit it.

I can guarantee the additional content is not the reason for that, the additional content is fanservice in Disgaea games, that's about it, it doesn't change or add anything meaningful to the story or the game mechanics, as the game is already released oozing content as it is, pay in mind this is not the PSP/PSV treatment, those are meaningful additions to the original game and they score about the same as the original version anyway, and were portable versions just as well.

Two of the three scores posted in the OP were 80s that turned in 90s now.
There seems to be just a lack of will to critic on Switch games compared to other platforms, even the Wii U.
I'm happier to see it scoring higher, but I'm not happy with this kind of inconsistency.

As I said before, the Switch will likely have a very good run with scores.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I think it's an underrated game and it deserves those high scores, I'm just a bit confused as to why essentially the same game is suddenly free of the negatives reviewers nagged on before. I realize that the portability of the Switch helps (hell, I use my Switch in portable mode about 99% of the time) it's just a bit strange that the same game receives such disparate scores.

The game is 10 times better suited for handheld gaming, it has more content than the original and 8 times less reviews, case closed.

So it should have just released on the PSVita but apparently it was "impossible"?

Still, seems like a good title for anybody needing some games on the Switch while they wait for ARMS in june(?)

Doesn't the game require disgusting amount of grinding (as I understand it, there is a stupidly high level cap on these games)? That's the case for hardcore fans of the series though but then again, this isn't a casual game either. The battery of the Switch may be an issue...THEN AGAIN, this type of game probably doesn't demand much so you can get 4-5 hours on it AND you can do some grinding while commuting/break/lunches...

Fuck it, portability sounds like a real plus

1. It's not better suited for handhelds, as a fan of the series I enjoy playing it for long sessions than Switch battery can even last, thus making portability actually an issue to me, maybe it's your preference, but it's not better suited for handhelds and case closed, at all.

2. The content is not meaningful to either the actual story or the game mechanics, check the last examples, Disgaea 3 and 4 on PSV had story, mechanics and actual new chars created for it, and was portable as well, plus all the additional content too, still score about the same as PS3 versions. Disgaea 3 exactly the same, Disgaea 4 went 2 points higher.

3. As I mentioned above the review from god if a geek boosted from 75 to 90, where it was quoted for having a "so-so narrative" as the "only issue" and it didn't change at all for the Switch version, is the exactly same game.

There are lots of inconsistencies going on.

I highly disagree, this kind of games are clearly better for hanheld gaming, that guy from Geek starts the review with the same opinion

"They felt so perfect on the Vita given their SRPG nature with quick battles that I was actually disappointed when Disgaea 5 was announced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive title"

Disgaea 4 also had better scores on Vita despite being released 3 years laters (instead of 1). In fact you can find similar examples (Eurogamer Spain gives an 80 to Ps3 version and a 90 to Vita...)

But most important, Switch has 7 times less reviews...

1. He thinks its better portable, you do not. Maybe consider that in reviews. Said reviewer prefers it one way or the other as well. The switch makes it so that they are never in a review saying "This is a better handheld, or better home console game", cause it can be either.

Lets say 10 reviewers review Disgea 4 on PS3, and then the same on the PSV. Half of them like playing it on tv, half like it portable. Thus half of them always give either the psv or the ps3 a dock in points for not being the format they like. PSV, gets five 8's, and five 9's. The 9's from those that like portable, the 8's from those that like tv. Same for PS3, it gest five 8's and five 9's. The reviewers flip flopped in this case. The ones that gave it a 9 on the PSV give it an 8 on the PS3 cause they like portability. The ones that gave it an 9 and gave it an 8 on teh PSV prefer to play it home console style.

Now on to the switch reviews. It gets all 9's, because all 10 reviewers can play the way they like to for this game. Those that like portable have that, those that like tv have that. No reason to dock.

Now that is just for reviewer bias in play method. Now lets talk about extra content, no new features as you said. The extra dlc as you said is just costumes? I have no idea, never played and don't know. But lets say it is. Then yes no point in upping score. No new features, story modes, story, ect. Idk again, taking your word. So again no raise in point there.

BUT you are not considering teh switch itself as a new feature. I watched a trailer yesterday for this game where they showed off all the plethora of stuff you can do. Showing off battles, the crazy way of playing such as making a tower of people and swinging them like a bat, ect. But during that trailer it also showed a ton of non-battle stuff. The town so to speak. You know where you go and recruit people, interogate people, build weapons, formulate team, level yourself up. Min/Max as they said. ect. Going off of memory from one watch, so don't recal all and could be adding stuff that doesn't exist. But you seem to have played this game so you would know of what I'm talking about.

Now as for what the switch brings to the table. I could see myself playing a game like this in this manner. For all the battles, story stuff, ect I woudl dock the system and play on teh big tv. Then when doing the hundreds of inbetween battle things I would undock it and have it in handheld mode while I watch a tv show. I can casually do this "offscreen" stuff without having to monopolize a tv per say, plus not getting bored doing all this stuff if a tv show is on. Or say this is an RPG type game where it requires a lot of grinding. You can do that mindless grinding stuff in portable mode while you watch a movie.

That is a new feature. It's not a new feature Disgea added, but a feature the Switch brings to all of its library just by being what it is.

Disgaea also had better scores on Vita despite being released 3 years later, this one is portable and with more content just one year after its ps4 release. In fact you can find similar examples with Disgaea 4 (Eurogamer Spain gives an 80 to Ps3 version and a 90 to Vita...)

But most important, Switch has 8 times less reviews... I'm afraid you are seeing what you want to see.

I'm not seeing what I want to see, I'm seeing what is happening.
The amount of reviews was actually the first point I even mentioned here when making my answer to the thread.

And no, it's not clearly better for handheld gaming, I've been playing Disgaea since the beginning on the PS2, I've played every single one of them, plus other similar NIS games, and I'm used on having sessions that last over 8 hours on it regularly, that's how I like to play this series, and the amount of spent hours the series average from players points to the same, people play it A LOT, check the forums out there.
It might suit better other people, but it's not clearly better suited for it, I'm part of the core community of this game since the beginning and I'm not found of it, it also doesn't mean it's clearly better suited for consoles, but it means the game can and is since the beginning enjoyed on really long sessions by its fans which is a handheld major downside, so there is nothing clear there, there are prefferences.

About Disgaea 4, as I said, those Vita versions have actual new features compared to the original version, not the only the game DLCs (which they also have), but new characters, stories and even gameplay mechanics.

YOU have 8 hours sessions with this game but I'm sure most humans don't, at all. I have Disgaea on PSP and I don't think I have ever played for more than 2 hours ever, the battles are quick which makes it suited for hanheld gaming, even the graphics makes way more sense on a hanheld than on the most powerful homeconsole in the market.

Just downloaded the demo, and I think it's a given of a purchase once it launches in Europe. Tempted to import via amazon.jp though :/

That's exactly what I'm poiting, there is you and there is me.
If you read what I wrote, I'm saying my way of playing it doesn't mean it's the way to be played, and I'm saying the opposite is exact the same, your or other people way also don't exclude mine and make it clearly better suited for handhelds.
As someone who have been going through the entire series as a dedicated player since the beginning I refuse to let someone say it's better suited for handhelds when it's not the case for me, or other people I know as well that have been playing it that way as the core of its community as well.

The part about the graphics... yeah, no, it not being an AAA game doesn't mean it's less suited for consoles, at all.

There's you and there's me but that review is on the same side as me in the opinion that is better suited for hanheld gaming and so he rated it better for that and the new content.
