Why do we need PSNation thread at all?

We can discuss things everywhere on the forum. I don't understand this obsession with the mega threads. I can sorta understand it when it comes to PC and Xbox, because those are comparatively small communities on VGC, so it's probably beneficial to concentrate the discussion about those platforms so it isn't drowned. But why does PS and Ninty need the mega threads? To have a circlejerk spamfest?
