Sonic mania is like a Sonic game for the saturn. A streets of rage for the saturn with complete remade HD pixel art just like mania is what i had in mind. Something classic looking that will get people excited.

Thinking about it, there could be another formula that could work, but it's a gamble. If you played Sleeping dogs... an open world game with combat in that vein but in the Streets of rage darker universe. I dunno. What i do know is that streets of rage suffers from the same problem final fight or golden axe do... they don't translate well to 3D.

Its already been done. Streets of Rage Remake Project:

- Over 100 remastered/new stages.

- 20 playable characters

- 83 remixed songs

- All 64 enemy types retooled

- Survival mode

- Boss Rush

- mini games

It did it all. SEGA recently shut it down after 10 years; It was becoming to big. SEGA has been beat to the punch. Hell there is a Streets of Rage as if it was made for NeoGeo.

As for your second point about not translating to 3D... You ever play the Yakuza series? That is 100%  Streets of Rage combat wise. My thing is this - Why does it have to be 3D? Why cant the secondary focus of a new Streets of Rage be to reinvent the beat tm up wheel? We are in a time right now where we are rediscovering (for lots just discovering) the joy of 2D gaming with modern touches.

Sure, i guess the Yakuza formula could work aswell. Not what i had in mind cause that is an RPG and it would be missing the co-op. I don't think yakuza is as awesome as Streets of Rage and i'm not sure it would do it justice... but i'd be up to giving it a try.

I would still like a classic new game though. Just cause an indie game has been made doesn't mean it can't be made by SEGA. Lot's of people didn't even know that existed.

Like something like this is a good idea aswell: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1326372&page=1

But i'd rather the old pixel art.

You post that thread every year yet Sega hasn't done a thing up until now.
Well, they are actually giving us a good Sonic for a change, but Sonic didn't die even with 20 years of Sanic so it's not really a revival...

I was thinking the same thing actually. Big difference between now then is that it is flat out confirmed in their own report vs being teased. Then we have thing like:

- New CEO stating returning to their 90's glory

- After 10 years of not batting an eye, SEGA shut down Bomber games Street of Rage project. Why?

- SEGA is respining out their development studios. Before the Dreamcast age, all SEGA's development studios were external and acted as subsidiaries to SEGA. They are returning to this. Takashi Iizuka and Sonic Team are back in North America. Yakuza studio is external now.

I agree with you 100%, but if they had to go a 3D route use Yakuza as the starting the point. Im not saying SEGA cant do a Street of Rage  Mania, just the impact will be dimmed. Not to metion man, it doesnt have to be a Mania game. A brand new side scrolling date beat em  up with 100% new is what I want most

Plz SEGA.

No wonder they went out of the console business if those are their major IPs. It's like a third rate Nintendo developer.

I would be happy with a current gen Fantasy Zone, they can go really dope with it and I just want to see Opa-Opa back already.

Woah

I'm playing 3D Fantasy Zone 2 right now.

Old IPs... Rise from your grave!

I would love to see a new Space Harrier. With today's technology it would be looking great. Get ready!

Also, a new Segagaga set in the past where they where still producing consoles and how the player would have chosen to save their console business

And I would kill for a Marvel vs Capcom style Sega vs Nintendo beat'em up. With Alex Kidd, Shinobi, Starman, Ax Battler, Rent-a-hero, the Centurion from Altered Beast, several characters from Sonic, Streets of rage and Phantasy Star series... They have more than enough characters to create a great rooster of fighters here to compete with Nintendos Stars

Speaking of Space Harrier, Yu Suzuki has talked about a VR Space Harriet.._

Figures, after all you could play it on the Master System with 3D Glasses, too
