Pfft... so sad. Like you know anything about me. If you were expecting boot licking though, you are right, that narritive doesn't fly with me.

You constantly post the same stuff over and over again, what more do I need to know?

Take a look at Amazon, the thing is selling better than the PS4 at the insane price of $400.

But yeah, all of the Switch's success can be explained by having a better name. /sarcasm

I agree here, you're clearly grasping at straws if that's the reason you think the Switch is selling well. I'm still waiting for an actual good reason from someone to downplay the Switch's success, but so far with all people coming up with being; 'artifical demand' and 'it's got a better name' just shows that there isn't one.

I know this might be crazy and unimaginable to think of, but just hear me out ok...? Maybe, just maybe the Switch is selling so much is because it's a good product. Crazy I know, but not as crazy as what your trying to convince people.

Nah guys. If the Wii U was called the Super Wii or something else, it honestly would have sold better. Same thing with 3DS (maybe not better, but at least faster).

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

That would mean that all those people who predicted Nintendo's downfall were wrong and no one wants to be wrong.  Instead of just admitting that, they'll probably constantly move the goalposts until they can convince themselves that they were right and the console that they're backing is safe from the big bad Nintendo bogeyman.

It is still early. Nintendo has a decent size pool of core fans. They should reach 30 - 50 million even in the worst cases. WiiU was just an absolute disaster.

Switch is a great design, and it holds a lot of excitement. The mobile industry has been in a rut for almost a decade now, and people are itching for something that finally improves the experience.

However, Nintendo has to keep pushing forward. Great hardware can only carry things so long. They have to open the OS up. Let in apps, get as many indies and 3rd parties on board as possible. That will capture the full scope of their core audience and start to branch out to casuals. To get back to where they were with DS they have to offer a Switch Phone at some point.

I have seen a lot of excitment around Switch from people around me, but the lack of 4G, apps, and major 3rd parties are what is holding it back, and what will eventually cause sales to hit a wall. I applaud the success it is having so far, and I hope Nintendo steps up and makes the moves needed to make their brand competitive in todays mobile market.

Everything you say here is true. Sadly, we all know Nintendo isn't going to do any of these things. They hit a home run with Wii, and they seem to be hitting a a home run with Switch, but OS, media capabilities, 3rd parties, etc. are a sideshow for Nintendo. They focus on the the games and would rather go down fighting following their own strange philosophy than adapting to the market.

I'm not saying Nintendo will go down by the way, they have proven to be very resillient and being as conservative as they are they hardly take any financial risks.

I heard this before. Wii U was selling gang busters in the first month and a half.

Anyways, not interested in fan wet dreams.

No it really wasn't where is this even coming from? The switch was only 1.2 million away from the Wii u's entire first year in march alone. that's before Mario kart, that's before arms and Splatoon and Mario Odyssey. This argument that the Wii U was selling like hotcakes at first just isn't true, it did ok then did horribly

Yeah, it did 2 million over November and December during the holiday season, which is certainly not brillant compared to any system that went on to be a success, then it went to dropping straight to not even able to sell over 100k a month directly afterwards.

I would argue that the Switch concept itself is an adaption to the market; they saw that Sony/MS have the "AAA third party multimedia box" role locked down, and decided instead to make a device that fills a different niche and takes advantage of the time-poverty and on-the-go lifestyle of adult gamers.

Yep, bingo.

Switch can be more than even just a "Nintendo box" (err ... slate), it's kind of a new class of game device altogether, as such it can have appeal to more than just Nintendo fans. Especially adult gamers as you mentioned.

Are you interested in cold hard numbers? It took the 3DS more than 18 weeks to sell what the Switch sold in its first 5 in the US -- that's using NPD figures.

In Japan, Switch is also having the best launch period of any console, handheld or otherwise, since the Wii.
