Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I could have been mistaken about Swich, but I have one theory left.

You know how we used to have a chalkboard for Xbox One? Maybe we can have one too for the Nintendo Switch, except it'll be filled with reasons why it'll fail and we'll get to cross off the ones that didn't come true

i like this idea

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

It is still early. Nintendo has a decent size pool of core fans. They should reach 30 - 50 million even in the worst cases. WiiU was just an absolute disaster.

Switch is a great design, and it holds a lot of excitement. The mobile industry has been in a rut for almost a decade now, and people are itching for something that finally improves the experience.

However, Nintendo has to keep pushing forward. Great hardware can only carry things so long. They have to open the OS up. Let in apps, get as many indies and 3rd parties on board as possible. That will capture the full scope of their core audience and start to branch out to casuals. To get back to where they were with DS they have to offer a Switch Phone at some point.

I have seen a lot of excitment around Switch from people around me, but the lack of 4G, apps, and major 3rd parties are what is holding it back, and what will eventually cause sales to hit a wall. I applaud the success it is having so far, and I hope Nintendo steps up and makes the moves needed to make their brand competitive in todays mobile market.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

What other system can you play mario kart on the go, and with friends at that.

I can also take my switch and connect it to a friend's tv without much hassle.

Future pokemon, and smash bros releases.

Switch might have a gimmicky controller, but every little innovation counts, as it will be used in future endeavors for an even grandeur experience. Out of the 5 senses, sound and sight are the most stimulated by gaming, while touch, taste, and smell are rather non existent in stimulation. It's nice to see nintendo adding an upgrade to touch from rather uninspiring rumble.

List of things to put in that chalkboard:

Artificial Demand

No AAA third party support

Unwanted gimmick

Too expensive

Too weak

It's a Nintendo Console

Casual Games

Too many Ports

No games

No appeal outside the loyal hardcore fanbase

Also we need to make a survey to discover the mysterious reason of why the Switch is selling so good  right now:

Endless Artificial Demand?

Casuals are back?

Hypnosis?

Bundled with cookies?

Just Nintendo loyalists buying in droves?

Who cares? Let's just call this thing a handheld and ignore its success like the rest of Nintendo portables...

I'm getting really tired of hearing this artificial demand theory. Nintendo doesn't do it. They never have. It's not in their interest to risk losing immediate sales. That's not to say that artificial demand is not a strategy that is used anywhere. It can be useful for some products (mainly low volume products with extremely high prices) but not game consoles, which rely on a very large userbase to be successful.

Can it not be that people just like the system?

LOL! You are funny xD

it'll sell better than the wii u, then slowly die.(who am i kidding right?).

I'm certain Nintendo is under-baking these a bit, but not explicitly to create false demand. Reports have it that profit margins per unit are slim. Nintendo is a very conservative company. There was no way they were going to produce enough of these things to have them just sitting on shelves until they burn through the initial run of parts and production costs go down.

Now that it's close to a sure hit they might loosen their wallets a bit, but don't count on Switch overstock this calendar year.

It has been over 2 months since switch released. It is still going strong. I didn't expect this. I figured that the Nintendo fanatics would have gotten their systems and sales would be slowing down. It actually seems to have increased! This doesn't make much sense to me since it is underpowered, very expensive--not counting the outrageous scalper prices of $410+ on Amazon--, and there are few games.

I have only one explanation other than just misreading the whole thing. The explanation is this: artificial demand. Nintendo was said to have done this with Wii. After 2 months it seems Nintendo (a multi billion dollar company) would have the Switch production problem fixed. They should be widely available. Maybe they saw that this worked for Wii and they are using this strategy to create artificial demand for Switch. Many ppl want what they can't have. Could this be the answer? Please let me know your opinions in the comments.

I have a question. I'm going to ask you what I've asked others who bring this claim up of Nintendo purposefully undersupplying and so far, no one has gotten back to me on this.

How does one distinguish between a producer manufacturing less units on purpose to create artificial demand and a producer underestimating the demand for their product thus creating a shortage of units available out in the market?

Probably when everyone starts saying they're going to have stock problems for the whole year. It's doesn't take eight months to up production scale.
