Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is anyone still mad that Zelda Breath of the Wild released so late?

It's pointless to be mad about it anymore, but it will always BOTHER me, yes.

The fact of the matter is, Wii U at the very least deserved BoTW an an EXCLUSIVE title, if not as a "system seller", then at least as one last "Big Hurrah". It got neither. What it got instead was a Wii U release as a polite after-thought.

Shit, it could've been worse, they could have canned the U version and made it a Switch exclusive.

They should have. I would have the switch by now if they did.

I wouldn't, I would never have purchased a Nintendo product again.

It was worth the wait

It's the main reason I'm mad all of the time. There's LOT'S of other reasons though. I'd put the Zelda delay at about 53% of my total rage.

enemies

Same Bokoblins, Lizalfols and Lynels with lazy recoloring. Everywhere. In each region. In each building. Even in Hyrule castle.

wildlife

Not even close to XCX wildlife in terms of design and variety. Real shame for heavy delayed game.

Same four bosses with lazyest recoloring.

shrines

Biggest bullshit in BotW and insult for actual Zelda dungeons. 40+ Tests of Strength with one (!) enemy, 40+ Blessing "Shrines", braindead "puzzles" in 90% of remaining shrines.

collectables

Yeah, I'm so excited to find another fucking Korok seed. And again. And again. And again. And again. "Wow, this mountain is so cool looking! I wonder what's on top of it. Oh, another Korok seed, nevermind."

Like what? Another sword which will breaks after 10 hits?

puzzles

Worst in the series due to limited number of runes and ALBW approach.

Some shrines requires specific items like torch (or any other wooden weapon) and bunch of arrows and if you run out of them for some reasons you'll need to go out of shrine, farm weapons/arrows and go back to solve the puzzle. This is a worst game-design ever. Especially from LoZ developers.

- You left out the Keese, Chuchus, Octoroks, Wizzrobes, Yiga assassins, etc. And the colours aren't just reskins; the Lizalfos for example have different abilities based on their colour.

- XCX has intentionally alien wildlife, BotW intentionally familiar, which you prefer is of course a matter of taste. In terms of the amount of different animals they're pretty close actually.

- The different forms of Hinox and Talus are not just reskins either, their abilities differ. Then you have Walking Guardians, Flying Guardians, Molduga, Lynels, the three dragons...

- I'd actually say BotW has overall the best shrine/dungeon design in the series; the puzzles were always logical, almost always creative, and never annoyingly vague.

- Korok seeds expand your inventory so you can carry more stuff, so they're useful.

- Only the very weakest weapons in the game break within 10 hits, most last much longer.

curl already covered most of it, so:

There are 20 Tests of Strength and 29 Blessings. Your numbers are not even close to being correct.

And Moblins, Keese, Yigas, Octoroks, Guardians, Flying Guardians, Wizzrobes, Stall-something. Each battle is unique, since the environment or surrounding is different and the weapons they wield or amount of enemies is never the same. The dozens of ways you approach battles is what matters here, not the variety of enemies. But ok, if you dislike having less than 50 or so enemy types, fine.

"Not even close to XCX wildlife in terms of design and variety. Real shame for heavy delayed game."

At least you can actually interact with them (each with their own types of reactions or easter eggs) unlike the "no collision" eveything in XCX. Also, you can ride bears, that's super cool. And there are dragons. And it's not like XCX didn't also have lazy reskins, btw. But it's a fair comparison.

"Same four bosses with lazyest recoloring."

I believe those are more than any other Zelda ever. Unless you mean the blights? Cause then your argument is losing value.

Yup, this isn't worth my time.

"Yeah, I'm so excited to find another fucking Korok seed. And again. And again. And again. And again. "Wow, this mountain is so cool looking! I wonder what's on top of it. Oh, another Korok seed, nevermind." "

I should just go to sleep, but I can't.

Collectables include almost literally everything in BotW. Spirit orbs, food, bugs, lizards, enemy parts, weapons, gems/minerals, gear, fish, and you guessed it, Korok Seeds. Or if you wanna be cheeky like that, then what do you think of every other Zelda collectable? "Ugh, another golden skulltula" "ugh, another useless mask" "blegh, stupid Maimai"

"Like what? Another sword which will breaks after 10 hits?"

Sure. Or rupees, or gems, or shields, or clothes, or arrows, or bows. I wonder what you get in other Zelda games besides rupees... More rupees.

"Worst in the series due to limited number of runes and ALBW approach.

I've never thought I would hear the word "limited" to describe puzzles in BotW, but here we are. I can tell you that 90% of those required items are given to you when you enter the shrine or puzzle. And unlike every other Zelda game you seem to praise so much, you can solve puzzles in BotW in multiple ways, you just need to actually think. Need fire? Make it out of wood and flint; break the lamp nearby; use a fire arrow; use a bomb arrow; use the bomb rune; use a fire sword/rod; light a wood stick or torch with the fire source right there. In old Zelda games? You could only do 1 of those possible options... so it was the only possible option.

If you somehow have 0 arrows while playing the BotW, then you are playing the game the worst way imaginable.
