So name change from Digital Event to Nintendo Spotlight, probably just to get Nintendo in the name. Also only Switch during it is good sauce and should be pretty telling to the few who still believe that Switch isn't also a successor to 3DS.

why make a presentation that focus in 2017?

Because it's 2017 and not 2018. There will of course be 2018 announcements, so your fear of an E3 2015 repeat is needless.

Compare E3 2014 and E3 2015.

They said focus on games releasing this year when they could have said focus on games coming out this year and games to come in 2018. And that makes all the difference.
You can say that part of my reasoning is based on a rumor, but it barely changes what i'm trying to say.
I know about those 20 games, but then again, if they are coming in 2018, and Nintendo has also a lot for 2018, why make a presentation that focus in 2017? As i said, it's more like E3 2015 when they barely announced games for wii u because they just didn't have them. And that is what i fear: a repitition of that situation.

Why focus on 2017? Maybe because we are not even half way through 2017? They have big Nintendo directs throughout the year, we can prob expect a big one between August-November giving us an idea of what's coming in the first half of 2018. Remember when they announced Zelda early (and kept delaying it). People were going nuts saying "why would Nintendo announce stuff that isn't coming out soon".

So, they have stuff to show but can't/won't show at a time where their competitors are bringing their best/future games to the show?
They focused on 2015 games at E3 2015 and we know exactly why. The reason wasn't a good one.

DélioPT said: This should have been a e3 2014 type of event where they show what's coming in 2014 and beyond that. But it's not. It's more like E3 2015 where they focus on games releasing in the current year - and barely announce anything for the home console. This was the moment where they convince non-switch owners that there's a lot coming next year. But it's not. Not that they won't, but it's obviously not the focus and that will make a lot of people think - and with good reason - that Switch won't have a good support in 2018. Couple that with Nintendo's recente comments of wanting 3rd party games as soon as possible on Switch and Switch in 2018 doesn't look good. |
You are wrong.First because focus dosent mean exclusively. And you have the recent direct as a proof that you could still talk alot about other things and still have it focused in other things.I mean, from the 40 or so minutes it lasted, around 20 minutes was for Splatoon and ARMS and the rest was for the myriad other games.
This E3 culd have a similar format.Assuming it lasts around one hour, 45 minutes could be about games releasing this year, and the extra 15 minutes to announce or tease games for 2018(I could see two or three announcements fitting there).
And even if they just spoke about 2017, it would be the better decision. We still know little about XC 2 and FE Warriors, they talked little about ODDyssey, and I bet they are going to flesh out more on Splatoon 2.And with all the success Switch is having so far, I bet they manage to secure one or two big third party announcements for the E3, outside of the ones that were talked about in the Switch reveal presentation. And thats not to say on unnannounced things they surelly have.
So dont worry, they are fine.

I never said it's JUST about 2017 games.
What i said is that focusing on 2017 games is a bad sign.
I'll even add the fact that this is their first E3 after launch and despite the recent success they can't just go at E3 and say "2018 games? Wait for it."
In depth details about upcoming games can be revealed at future specific NDs.
There's no reason why they can't show and talk about 2017 games and still show 2018 games in a good amount.
I'll bet that surprises will be more about unknown 2017 games than 2018 games - at least for Switch.
