"focus on games launching in 2017" That's not good?

It's not bad per se, but it makes it sounds like there won't be much in the way of new game announcements, unless Nintendo is keeping something very secret, which I hope they are.

It's likely we will see something to do with 2018's line-up, at E3 2016 remember they said the only game they would show was Zelda Botw, but then ended up having a string of 3DS games and news such as Pokemon Sun and Moon, Mario Party Star Rush and the new IP Ever Oasis.

Nice, I hope they still sneak in some trailers for games coming up in 2018 such as the Fire Emblem game they already announced but still I'm positive they have a few titles for this fall we still know nothing about

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Come on E3, get here already.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

This should have been a e3 2014 type of event where they show what's coming in 2014 and beyond that. But it's not. It's more like E3 2015 where they focus on games releasing in the current year - and barely announce anything for the home console.

This was the moment where they convince non-switch owners that there's a lot coming next year. But it's not.
Not that they won't, but it's obviously not the focus and that will make a lot of people think - and with good reason - that Switch won't have a good support in 2018. Couple that with Nintendo's recente comments of wanting 3rd party games as soon as possible on Switch and Switch in 2018 doesn't look good.

Kimishima's financial Q&A suggested there are unrevealed 2017 titles in the works for Switch, so we should see them at E3. It could just be they're the heavily rumoured Smash Bros DX, Pokemon Stars and Mario/Rabbids crossover; the former two at least would make Switch's 2017 lineup even stronger.

Choosing Mario as the headline title is an interesting move- I think having such an overwhelming focus on Breath of the Wild last year has ultimately really helped both that game and Switch. Obviously Odyssey is going to be sharing the spotlight with a much broader array of titles than Zelda, but clearly Nintendo want people focusing on Odyssey for the Christmas season, and perhaps hope to recreate some of the interest that Zelda built up. Exciting times ahead.

You dont know that, focus means just that. Last Direct had a focus on Splatoon 2 and Arms, but we had plenty of things alongside Splatoon 2 and ARMS, but obviously they have biggest focus.

Your other part of post is clear assumption based on nothing, for instance we recently had official statement that over 20 UE4 games are in development for Switch in Japan only.

They said focus on games releasing this year when they could have said focus on games coming out this year and games to come in 2018.
And that makes all the difference.

You can say that part of my reasoning is based on a rumor, but it barely changes what i'm trying to say.

I know about those 20 games, but then again, if they are coming in 2018, and Nintendo has also a lot for 2018, why make a presentation that focus in 2017?
As i said, it's more like E3 2015 when they barely announced games for wii u because they just didn't have them. And that is what i fear: a repitition of that situation.

I think its the more obvious move. It's Mario. The Michael Jordan of video games. Unless you've lived under a rock for 30+ years, you know who Mario is and what he represents. His presence at the closing ceremonies of the 2016 Rio Olympics garnered positive reception. The Odyssey trailer has more views on YouTube than even Zelda BoTW's story trailer that closed the Switch presentation. And if Mario stays on target for the holiday season, then the Switch will have a very solid title to close out the year.

as long as they have a presentation they are fine. even if it isnt live. while i do feel the live shows are better. its good that they are having some kind of presentation or direct to announce new stuff.
