If this is true, Ubisoft had really bad luck when picking this setting. When they ran the Far Cry setting survey back in 2015, with spaghetti western as an option people could vote on, Red Dead Redemption 2 hadn't been announced yet, so alot of people likely voted for spaghetti western hoping to whet their appetite for a western game while they waited on RDR2. Of course RDR2 has actually been announced since then and is set for release this year. Unless RDR2 is delayed (Rockstar does have a history of delaying games), Ubisoft is going to be screwed, Red Dead is much more popular than Far Cry and there's really only room for 1 western game this year. Ubisoft had better either delay Far Cry 5 themselves, or hope RDR2 is delayed until next year.

Went and looked up the other options listed in that survey you mentioned:

- A Far Cry game in remote Alaska about surviving extreme wilderness
- A Far Cry game in a futuristic, sci-fi setting on another planet
- A Far Cry game set in the Vietnam war during the 1960s
- A Far Cry game set in the cocaine trafficking jungles of Peru
- A Far Cry game where you can fight against or join vampires
- A Far Cry game in the Spaghetti Western style set in the late 19th century Americas
- A Far Cry game that is set during a zombie outbreak
- Blood Dragon 2. A sequel to Blood Dragon with more Rex Power Colt
- A Far Cry game set in a Mad Max style post-apocalyptic world
- A Far Cry game in the present day, set in a Jurassic Park Style island of dinosaurs
- A Far Cry game based on the world of Shangri-La from Far Cry 4

dude jurassic park or blood dragon 2 would be AMAZING with Far Cry gameplay.  I also like the zombie idea for Far Cry rather than normal post apocalypse for some reason

Good. That means I won't have to play it.

Does Ubisoft forces you to play non-western themed games?

Yes.

I don't have anything against the idea but with Red Dead Redemption 2 around the corner this game would only damage itself.

The cocaine trafficking jungles of Peru sounds interesting!

at first i thought the same, but then i thought it would be similar to other Farcry games. id very much prefer a jurasssic park style isand or a game where you can fight against or join vampires. those two sound the most fresh and interesting.

Oh, so it's Ubisoft being a dick and ignoring what people wanted instead? Stupid Ubisoft!

The poll was done in 2015, after this game would have entered development (Ubisoft has at least a 3 year cycle on their games nowadays, sometimes 4 years). Ubisoft was likely just testing to see if there was any interest in a western Far Cry at all by putting it in the survey after it was already in development. Don't worry, we might just get that Jurassic Park styled Far Cry eventually, if it's anything like the Assassin's Creed survey Ubisoft did a few years earlier, most of the settings in the Far Cry survey will eventually be done. Most of the settings from the Assassin's Creed survey have since been done, either in the main series or in the spinoff series.

i would buy a jurassic park styled Farcry (main series, with guns) in an instant. my gosh, it could be amazing.

Interesting. There are really intriguing options in there (my picks in bold), mixed with some horrible ones.

Zombies and sci-fi should be definite nos for the sries. However, given my feelings about the far cry 4 segements, Shangri-La is easily the worst setting.

Thing is, it's very similar in premise to another Ubisoft game, the recently released Ghost Recon Wildlands is set in Bolivia, which is very close to Peru, and also features a storyline about fighting the drug cartels. For that reason alone, I think they won't do the Peru game, or at the very least will save it and do it after a few other Far Cry games.

I didn't know that, I didn't really follow GR: Wildlands.

I don't really understand the idea that two games with the same setting can't do well if released close to one another. It's like saying that Battlefield will flop if it releases close to CoD. If the game is good, it will do well. Far Cry has a pretty substantial fan-base and it's not all that similar to RDR.

As for the game itself, I'm down. Far Cry games are fun and I'm a much bigger fan of traditional rifles than I am automatic weapons. I just hope it has forests and such. I'm kind of burnt out on deserts.

i agree. its like saying that either Destiny or Battlefront will flop this year because both are sci-fi shooters.

however it is going up against RDR, which will draw a lot of comparison, and if history is anything to go by, Rockstar will have a very very solid piece of software on their hands. it could overshadow Farcry 5. though the comparisons of Farcry 5 VS RDR2 will draw attention to FC5.

if they dont release a few weeks apart then FC5 will be fine. but if it releases close then i can see the damage happening, look at Titanfall 2 last year. release Farcry 5 in september, and if RDR2 comes out in Nov then it wouldnt really have much to worry about.

without a doubt. i couldnt even finish that lost mission, the whole thing was shit. if they do a shangri la game it would be the first time i probably skip a farcry game since i started with the series with Farcry 3. Farcry Primal should be their take on the shangri la style game. thats enough.
