Forums - General Discussion - Can we all agree that tomatoes are disgusting?

Raw tomatoes taste like shit! I hate their rotten solanaceous stench and aftertaste, no matter how fresh they are.

When you come from India, Pakistan or even Italy I presume tomatoes are one of the most important ingredients since almost everything requires them to be made. So to me of course tomatoes are not awful. I don't eat them without anything just for the fun of it but I have no problem eating them. But remember the priority list of ingredients in my country are:
Garlic
Onions
Tomatoes
Spices

Im danish and live mainly off of italian cooking, and I agree with your list.

Tomatoes, Onions and Garlic, plenty of herbs & spices.

Food would be dull and boring without these ingredients.

I used to love tomatoes as one of my favorites foods, but that is because I ate some real tomatoes.

Nowadays american tomatoes are bland and lack in almost everything. Still can't go wrong with some of my other favorite tomato foods like Pizza, Salsa, Lasagna, and the list goes on.

This is a real issue. OP is too young and that's why I understand his problems with tomatoes. Tomatoes used to taste great each time I bought them. Nowadays, 9 out 10 tomatoes suck. They lost their intense taste.

Humans ruined its taste!

Organically grown cherry tomatoes are still great though. They taste great, 10 out 10!

We grow our own tomatoes. Red, yellow, orange and black ones. I love 'em.

If you've only ever eaten shitty factory tomatoes, well... You're missing out.

How and where do you grow them? Can you grow them all year long?

If hes from sweden then no not all year long.

They need mild weather, but not freezeing.

Tomato plants stop growing and produceing fruit, if they get below 8 degree's celcius.

So you need to grow them inside (your own house) and then plant them outsides into your green house, when the weather allows for it.

We do the same here, we grow our own tomatoes, and garlic too. Alot of herbs. Fresh basil, Rosmarin, Timian, Salvie, estragon ect.

And yes.... not all store bought tomatoes taste that great.

I think the spanish tomatoes we usually get here in stores are pretty decent though.

The tomatoe flavour is good, the tomatoe is not.

Hmm, pie.

Disgusting? What did I do to you!? xD

Depends what product you are getting, but they are awesome.
I do know a few people like yourself who hate the texture... poor souls.

Like few have mentioned it's great by itself if it's not a bland unripe tomato.
Still would love to have some gazapacho or pipirrana right now, yamyam, or even a classic BLT!

They're alright, I'm not huge fan but I'll eat one in a salad, sandwich, just not by themselves.

Now, raw uncooked onions in a salad/sandwich, those are a travesty.

Amen brother.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I dislike raw tomatoes, onions, and peppers, but you chop them up and make pico or salsa and I eat that stuff like candy, cannot explain it.

Horrible pics.
