Forums - Politics Discussion - Is Marie Le Pen more Left-Wing than Macron? (French Presidential Election)

https://www.politicalcompass.org/france2017

Macron calls himself a Social Liberal but hes clearly a Libertarian and pretty Right Wing when it comes to the economy. While Marie Le Pen is pretty Socialist in comparison except for not wanting to take immigrants, she even wants to nationalize the banks which i 100% agree with.

Whats you opinion? Who would you vote as Left Wing?

This doesn't make any sense. Macron is a centrist, Le Pen is extreme right and Fillion is liberal+right.

My personal results on that site were wrong too.

Edit: I didn't see the left/right scale was about economics. Still, it's very weird to see Fillion on the authoritarian side.

Hmm why do people call Le Pen "far right" and Macron "centrist" if the political compass looks like that?

I've noticed a trend that people conflate "authoritarian" with "right wing", which is obviously inaccurate as left wings can be authoritarian and right can be libertarian. Is that what's at play here?

The terms leftwing and rightwing are irrelevant in modern politics.

You are socially left/right, economicaly liberalist/socialist/, globalist/nationalist, etc...

Clumping people together in oversimplified categorues hurts discussion.

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

For his higher acceptance of cultutal diversty (ethicity, lgbt) pro-free trade, pro-international collaboration viewsand generally more right wing local economics, I woud support Macron.

Indeed, modern politics are too complicated to just give people and parties some labels. Not only because these people and parties all have their own unique ideas, but also because these labels don't have clear definitions.

Le Pen is comfortably right wing on a social level. A graph based on economics doesn't change that, and it won't make people who identify as left vote for Le Pen.

But economics is more important. And there is no left or right on social scale only individual freedom or authoritarianism

Shouldn't the results of that site match with todays standards?
