Forums - Gaming Discussion - I HATE Audio Logs. Stop Using Them! Go Back To Cutscenes

You know what game really did world building and immersion really well? Metroid Prime.

That game used text logs and atmosphere to build the world. And they kept cut scenes to a minimum. You know why? Because nothing takes you out of a game faster than a long cut scene.

They are much cheaper than cutscenes so no.

In general, the less cut scenes in a game, the better. Let me play, not watch.

The problem is in most cases when you find an audiolog the gameplay consist in walking around listening to the audiolog.

I like them. Keep playing while listening to them.

I love audio logs if done right. Absorb some extra story will still getting stuff done in the game

Dead Space did them very well

Development costs and such are passed along to the end user in some fashion or another, so yes it actually does save you money that they go with the cheaper option of audio logs instead of cut scenes.

Yeah, in what fashion?

Well off the top of my head they might split the same story into multiple games since they have to do so much extra programming, so buying two+ games instead of one.

Additional DLC to round out the story would be another.

Microtransactions of some form that supplement it instead is an increasingly popular option.

I just mean that developers are not going to stop using audio logs because of how cheap they are to make compared to cutscenes.
