Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo has a realistic shot at returning to #1 this fiscal year - RESULT: Nintendo back on top (21.45m), Sony second (19m+)

Which company will sell the most consoles in the fiscal year ending March 2018?

Sony (by more than 3m) 260 27.84%

Sony (between 2-3m more) 52 5.57%

Sony (between 1-2m more) 73 7.82%

Virtually tied (within 1m of each other) 133 14.24%

Nintendo (between 1-2m more) 150 16.06%

Nintendo (between 2-3m more) 59 6.32%

Nintendo (by more than 3m) 104 11.13%

Microsoft (seriously) 15 1.61%

Microsoft (for the lulz) 30 3.21%

Scoreboard 58 6.21%

Total:934

It's possible without a doubt, but I think Sony will win this in the end. The PS4 is just too damn strong and with some nice deals for the holidays or a price cut, they will sell one shitload of consoles.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

Technically not because the PS4 is last generation. Once PS5 comes out, then we can fairly compare sales.

I agree, the Switch forecast for this fiscal year seems very conservative to me. Nintendo didn't want to repeat the mistakes from the Wii U generation when they had to lower their forecasts all the time. I'm not sure how much they'll sell but there's a very high chance they'll beat their target.

What???

Why is comparing the Switch to PS4 unfair, yet PS5 to Switch IS fair? Don't see your logic there at all.

8th gen vs 8th gen

9th gen vs 9th gen

That is the logic behind it

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Hopefully people will realise Switch doesn't fit into a generation, and doesn't need to be crammed into some industry-wide generation eventually. Though you have to question the defintion of "generation" people have that puts Switch in the ninth if they insist on grouping it at all. Assuming PS5 launches Holiday 2020:

Switch is closer in release date to PS4.
Switch is closer in power to PS4.
Switch will spend the majority of it's life on the market with PS4 not PS5.
Switch will share more of it's software library with PS4 than PS5.

Yeah so that means that this thread also needs to include the Wii U in this because it is also 8th gen. So that means it is PS4/Vita vs Wii U/Switch/3DS. While i get what you are saying  the Switch just throws an odd curve in the mix of things.

This thread is about hardware shipments this fiscal year though, generations aren't relevant. WiiU would be included but I don't think they're going to shipping any of them.

Ps4 will win easily(vs switch and 3ds combined).

They'll just close the gap later then. Nintendo is still capable of releasing a console worse than Wii U that will give them negative sales.
