Interesting .  i never saw The Mist (didn't remember it being that strong a story).  Shawshank is one of my all time favorites and The Green Mile was good.  Typically movies based off of King's novels suck (with a few exceptions).

If you liked Shawshank and The Green Mile I'm sure you would like The Mist also even though its in a completly different genre.  I not really a huge fan of horror movies but I really liked The Mist still want to get the two disc Blu ray version of the film and watch it in black and white which was his original plan of how he wanted to release it in theaters.

I'll give The Mist a go then.

Other adaptaions i liked were Cujo, The Shining, Misery, Firestarter (1984),Cristine, and Stand by Me.  The Dark Half was alright as it followed the book more closely than most adaptations if i remember correctly (it's been a long time since I read/ watched that one and neither made much of an impression really).

I'd like to see people go back to the mini-series format now that special effects have come up to a decent level even in regular television.  The Stand and It could have done with better visuals and actors.

Movie looks good. Dont care for the books. It looks a bit like Blood / Blood II The chosen.

Even though I think Kubrick is overrated I also liked The Shining a lot Stephen King actually hates that version because its not a very close adaption of the book.

As is virtually always the case, yes, the book is better.  Time not withstanding the only two where I think I'd rather watch the movie than read the book are Stand by Me and Shawshank (Andy getting raped in increased detail always made me squimish).

gunslinger parodies has begun.

It is a bit meh for me don't know what to think..

read the books (8) and the path to get to the dark tower took me a year and I did not had a ka tet to reach it faster but still enjoyed it overall...one thing that made me go bonkers was the 'lets have a book that's just a flashback story'

Haven't read all the books yet, but I really enjoyed 1-4. This....isn't what I expected, but ok. Guess it's very loosely based on the books to say the least. Could still be a fun movie I suppose

Yes I'm not much of a reader but the two books that I actually read and that where made into movies Jussasic Park and The Autobiography of Malcom X where both inferior to the books.  Jurrasic Park would have been R rated if it followed the book more closely and Malcom X would have been over 4 hours long if it followed the book more closely.  Even though I never read the book most people consider The Godfather movie superior to the book.

With King I enjoyed The Shining, but I also loved Kubrick's take on it.  I think some things translate and other aspects have to be adjusted for different mediums.

No thanks. This is one of those crap movies that tries to cram 3 books into one 2 1/2-3 hr movie. Those never work out. And the gunslinger looks like he would fit better in a generic vampire movie. I think Matthew McConaughey would have been better served as the gunslinger than as the villain.
