Forums - Gaming Discussion - God Of War Ps4 can reach 4 - 5 mil FW sales

I think this could really happen, if watching at the views of youtube, what for me shows the interest for a game...

Gravity rush 2 e3 2016 trailer - 340 k views .... Fw sales 186 k

horizon zero dawn e3 2015 trailer 5,7 - mil views.... Fw sales 1,8 mil

God of War e3 2016 trailer - 17 mil views.... Fw sales 4 - 5 mil???

Maybe i'm wrong but watching at the views on youtube the interest is very high, and second it's a very well known ip

A franchise that typically sells 4-5m lifetime getting 4-5m first week?

That really doesn't seem likely. I doubt Sony will even ship enough to sell that much first week even if the demand were there.

Also I think it ll reach a bigger fanbase this time.

They changed the formula abit, reach a broader audience.

"Marty Sliva of IGN said that although the original trilogy are three of the most influential action games of the past fifteen years, he was never able to connect with the series, mainly because of Kratos. The developing relationship between Kratos and his son and the more intimate experience of the new installment, based on the E3 2016 demo, has changed Sliva's attitude and made him care for the series" - wiki

"Peter Brown of GameSpot said that changing the camera was a "smart move" and a change he was hoping for; "it's super impressive." He said the intimate moment between Kratos and his son killing the deer "inspired emotion from me," something that previous installments did not do for him." - wiki

"Alexa Ray Corriea, also of GameSpot, is also glad there is no fixed camera and that players can explore the world." - wiki

They are not alone.

This is going to be a bigger God of War, than you usually see, imo.

Completely changing the dynamics of God Of War could also backfire. Fans like myself who has played (and platted) every single iteration of the game may not like the new mechanics. I love GOW the way it is. I do hope that whatever they did add, it doesn't take away from the overall gameplay that made GOW the game it is today. I love that series and hope that it only goes up in high remarks than it already has.

No (?) It doesn't work that way, GoW was simply the highlight of Sony's last E3 so it only makes sense for it to be watched by a lot more people than the other two, following your logic TLoZ: Breath of the Wild should have sold more than 4M FW since the reveal trailer from E3 2016 sits at 12M views...

Oh man, those quotes are so discouraging. Like heart-breaking. I just don't get why game critics would need an emotional anchor to truly appreciate a game when its mechanics and gameplay loops are so satisfying.

Personally, I'm with you, Rafie. I like God of War the way it is. Adding more scripted events and "intimate moments" doesn't make the game appreciably better. In fact, I'd argue it has a deleterious effect.

No doubt that this game is going to be huge but 5M first week would be freaking sick!!!

Yeah, but one million of the views are from me alone, and i'm only buying the game once

...maybe twice

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Nah, I'm confident it will be the best selling GoW (assuming it's actually as good as it looks) but 4-5 million fw is insane.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

At first I thought this was lifetime sales and I was thinking no shit. FW though, eh, that's a tall task, even if the game is great. Look at Horizon, had huge marketing, enormous buzz, great reviews well before launch, it apparently did less than 3 million in its first two weeks. Will be hard for God of War to basically double that in half the time.
