Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What is microsofts obsession with controllers?

I really do not understand it. In the beginning it was cool and unique, just like the 360 era. The problem is Microsoft Microsoft is taking this a accessories act too far. On YouTube they dropped like three or four ads (in like an hour)for controllers and not one for an exclusive. Just one... show me cup head or something. They'll show you every color of the rainbow for their controllers. Why are they so tight lipped about their exclusives? I'm starting.to see people on the Xbox magazine page on Facebook and YouTube complaining about this. Multiplats, controllers colors, new military  controller  and Scorpio. Trust me I have an Xbox elite controller that I proudly paid for so I'm not even looking at their design labs stuff even though it might have someone who didn't want to elite upgrade. I'm just slightly worried.

Funniest comment that someone wrote online was:

Xbox fan: so where's the games?

Microsoft:  did somebody say new controllers?

ive also heard around YouTube and Facebook, about people saying "1000 controllers and no games."

its pretty catchy. God help Microsoft this e3 though. Lol what do you guys think?

I think you have a problem with something which isn't one. I mean, you can have a problem with which games MS releases but the amount of controllers or controller advertisement doesn't increase or decrease the number of games, there is just no correlation.

They probably make a ton of money with them, that's their obsession with controllers.

Yeah, I don't see it as a big deal. And I'm not a huge fan of "1000 controllers and no games" because it could be better.

Something like..."1000 controllers and nothing to do with them" would be better. Not that I actually think the Xbox One doesn't have any games.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Brother please, it makes money what else? I hope you bought, all the games they made since 2013, . They said they'll announce new games at E3 and they mostly release their games in the second half of the year. EVERY year.

Xbox isn't doing too hot. Microsoft can sell games therr to an audience of 30 million people at best. Controllers are being bought by PC gamers also and those folks most of the time have some serious cash to spemd for hardware. Add to that that the Xbox controllers are the de facto standard on PC. Only some edgy kids play with a DS4. Perfectly possible, but nobody except hipsters does it. Plus, the margin for profits is way higher with controllers. That elite thing probably costs 50 $ max to make, if not even less.

Sure, they could also bring their games to PC and expand the userbase and they are already doing that to some extent. But they really don't want to use steam, so nobody buys those. Controllers can be sold to anyone, even steam users.

Well, at lesst that's what coming from the top of my head. Probably complete BS, but who knows, right? =P

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

Who cares? Besides, it's a nice way to generate some buzz.

lol you should have seen SEGA in the 90s. We had a new controller or new way to control the games every week.

The truth is they aren't really trying to sell these to just XBO fans/owners, but PC gamers, as well. This is just a result of them focusing more on PC.

They make fantastic controllers :)

Oh my bad, this is another thread shitting on their games. Never mind.

they do make a lot, and at times it does almost feel they make more controllers than games

but it's not like it's taking away resources from software, that's it's own separate issue
