You heard it here folks. 1-2 switch and call of duty is the same level of competition.

It is on nintendo consoles and if you read right that's what i meant, between cod and switch 1-2 , switch 1-2 will end up selling more on the nintendo platform despite the game being a piece of crap.

So say you're developing a game, do you think sales will be affected the same amount if you released on PS4 launch next to a Cod, Battlefield, Fifa and assissins creed as it would be releasing on the switch next to lego city undercover, bomberman R, 1-2 switch and snipperclippers?

I'll mention for a third time, Zelda would sell amazingly no matter when it came out, but it's completely disingenuous to say lack of major titles has nothing at all to do with it.

But isn't a lack of major titles subjective? Seriously, games like Bomberman, Puyo Puyo vs. Tetris and 1-2-Switch are more exciting to me than Call of Duty or Fifa. I buy my home consoles primarily to play local multiplayer games with my girlfriend and my friends and there's lots of people who do the same. Bomberman has already shipped 500k copies and it's on track to become a million seller. And that is not because of lack of competition. Bomberman is a genuinely great multiplayer experience many people were looking forward to.

I remember these disucssions from the Wii days, when Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, 2D Mario, etc. weren't "real games" and "low quality". But people kept buying these games anyway and they had extremely long legs. The same will happen to some of the games on the Switch. Bomberman will still sell during the holidays when lots of "AAA" games from early 2017 will long be forgotten.

agreed but not on nintendo handhelds. Nint gamers havent been groomed enough to migrate on to digital media, even on their previous handheld they relied on physical.. switch will be the first console to start the proper transistion, but not jump start it coz of low internal memory and high prices of UHS MicroSD cards. It will gain traction but as soon as the prices per gb comes down and 512 gb is available at the price of a normal HDD.

I mean what other handhelds are there? The only other would be the the PS Vita, and in comparison to those horribly expensive memory cards I wouldn't call that more ideal for digital games. Standard memory cards are pretty cheap in comparison, you can get a 200gb micro sd card for $85.

Although I get that memory card prices are still pretty high right now especially compared to the price of a normal HDD, but we've definitley seen a decrease in price over the years and that will sure to continue. But we are still far from going all digital in the gaming industry.

I was talking about casual gamers.. tablets and mobile phones. and yes vita biggest reason for failure has been its memory card, but that was back in 2012 and in 2017 switch is in the same position. the only difference being is that Sd card prices will surely come down and nintendo eshop will get better, but its not now. Hence my point remains, untill the sd card prices come down zelda will be a physical game.. compared to horizon zero dawn.

i dont see anybody buying zelda digitally, considering how sweet that box art is and not to mention nintendo has still not yet fully embraced the digital medium as well as PS4 and Xbox.

Both Switch and Wii U have enough storage to accomodate Zelda, and around here at least physical copies are/were sold out most everywhere.

When we consider that Zelda sold 3.84 million in March according to Nintendo, yet VGC has it at about 2.6 million as of March 25th, either it's considerably undertracked, or a significant chunk of its sales are digital, or both.

though just to point out that 3.84 number includes Wii U so I'm sure some of those units are on store shelves (not sold through) and also that number is shipped from nintendo, so likely there could be a couple hundred thousand en route to stores as part of an end of march shipment. VGC physical copies sold by end of March looks like it'll be under 2.9 million, figure maybe a couple hundred thousand en route and say a hundred thousand on shelves brings it to ~3.2 million, so yeah some ~600k combination of VGC undertracking and digital sales, but I doubt digital sales are close to half a million since Zelda is not at the top of the list for Switch digital sales.

Anyway, the small internal storage of the Switch definitely discourages digital download of large games. I personally wouldn't want to pay more than say $50 for an SD card that would be large enough for me to basically never worry about how many digital Switch games I would buy (assuming that I'm not buying tons of games and some of them are physical), so at least 256gb.

Major titles titles isn't subjective it's not about excitement. I don't get excited for FIFA but it is a major title because it sells millions upon millions every year. I'm really trying to understand how you can even try to argue that Battlefield, CoD, Fifa and Assassin's creed are on the same levels as Puyo Puyo vs tetris.

Switch is doing great!

Zelda over 100k still is very good!

Now we know MK8D numbers too - Switch should hold on well till end of May.

Hopefully Arms will be a major surprise.

And Splatoon2 will just do what he needs to.

Switch!!!

I was including Wii U, that version seems to be hard to come by in stores also, at least in my neck of the woods, and pretty much every serious Wii U owner has an external hard drive so storage space wouldn't be an issue.

I can't remember, has Nintendo ever talked about what percentage of their major game sales are digital?
