Most all of the more difficult games I have beaten were back in my childhood on NES.

TMNT
Castlevania 1-3
Double Dragon 1-3
Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2
Metroid
MegaMan 1-3
Zelda 2

I feel like I beat Battletoads at one point, but I might've just watched my brother do it. He is much better than I am at pretty much all video games.

Someone mentioned Vagrant Story, not sure I would classified that one as difficult but if so, throw it on my list here too.

My brother and I used to double team games, too. Some he was great at (Metal Gear, Ninja Gaiden, sports games) and some I was great at a few, too (Castlevania, Bionic Commando, Wizards and Warriors, space shooters). We'd "give each other credit" by totally beating a game, getting to the final boss, and letting the other get the final hit.

Good memories. Now, he doesn't even game anymore. He's a preacher. Such a waste!

Just kidding. He does good work.

I haven't played metro 2033 but the same exact things you mentioned are in Metro Last light if you play it on Ranger mode

Yeah. That's the (unfortunately) difficulty they sold as DLC Day One for Last Light. It's cool to see that they implemented it in 2033 too, as I thought it was quite immersive all things considered.

Still to this very day that ranger mode is available as paid DLC. I still don't understand, who would pay money for a difficulty level ?!

For me, maybe Enter the Gungeon. Although, technically speaking, I have not managed to defeat Bullet Hell yet.

I've also beaten all the Souls games and Bloodborne.

Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels - the orginal game, not the All Stars port.

That's the version that had a map where you could repeatedly enter the wrong pipeline and the game would repeatedly kick you back to the start of the level while the clock was still ticking down, right?

Honestly I dunno.
Probably some 3rd gen game like Ninja Gaiden but I consider these games unfair not hard, because the "hardest" parts are usually because of hardware limitation and not so good controls above anything else.

Maybe Demon's Souls, then.
I'm replaying Dark Souls and it's feeling like a walk in the park, either it's easy or cheap, well, I'm much more experienced with this "genre" nowdays.
Didn't remember Dark Souls had such bad controls and framerates problems though, it may have a lot more on it but Demon's Souls is a lot more polished than it. A LOT. Dark Souls 2 as well, but that's a newer game.

Yep.

Hmmm, going by the game that was hardest to platinum due to chezzy AI I would say God Of War 3 followed by COD:World at War
