So I watched Guardians of the Galaxy 2 last night.

First time in 11 months I go to the movies alone, since my girlfriend cheated on me with her current BF, so, after 11 months, that is over...

Anyways, it was just what the doctor ordered: FUN, FUN, FUN movie, has James Gunn written all over, the jokes get you from the left, right, front and back, you won´t be prepared.

It is like dozens of jokes, like, I was still laughing from one joke and another got me.

The movie is like the best comic book you read in a while, the history is pure comic book fun: high stakes but it feels intimate.

Amazing movie, beautiful, cool, reminds me of Hitchhiker´s Guide to the Galaxy. I hope it does great in box office, it deserves like very few other flicks do.

Anyone enjoying it?

If you saw the first one, would you say this one is better or worse?

Much more funny. Feels much smaller, not in visuals, but in complexity, which makes the story much more easy to digest.

Probably a easier movie to make than the first, though it is a crazy super production.

But, to a normal movie goer, a much better movie than the first.

I chuckled a bit in the first, but in this one I was almost ashamed of how much I was laughing =)

Good to know. The amount of jokes in the original were just slightly below my level of hatred as to where I could still enjoy it, but if they've increased the cringey jokes I guess it'll be worthwhile to skip this one.

It´s joke after joke after joke. But they are pretty funny. If you want a serious movie, you will be really really annoyed with this one. But I think you should watch, it is a great movie. Go in a day you are feeling blue. Leave your troubles at the door, get pop corn, a snickers bar and a diet coke, you will have a great time.

Yes, the movie is awesome, and also very different from the first. I'd recommend anyone to just write off comparisons between them and appreciate Vol. 2 for what it is.

Edit: about the humor itself, it's probably the main thing carried over from the first movie (alongside the music), though it is a bit different in nature. To be honest I think the first movie was just about right with the amount/frequency of jokes, this one kinda overdoes it - however, they do feel a little bit more organic this time, even if way rougher in nature.

It is very different indeed

what about if they're good jokes?  Never got why joke level in a comedy/space opera is a problem

I am Iron Man

I loved it and it must be the perfect movie after what happened to you (sad to hear btw). I would it's neither better or worse than the first, but mainly a lot more focus on jokes ☺

The perfect movie indeed, never expected to laugh this much so soon. Also, thanks for the sentiment.

That's subjectivity for you. I don't think the majority of jokes Marvel or most super hero movies go for are good. They are all extremely cringey and juvenile to me. I would say though that the first Guardians of the Galaxy had better overall joke writing than most other super hero movies and the Guardians of the Galaxy series is definitely built to be more comedy-driven, unlike other movies where it's shoe-horned in to appeal to mass demographics more.
